Has to be Pataudi.

SS I wish you'd wake up :( Do a bit of reading of Pataudi at the very least.

Tough one.

If the match fixing episode isn't a factor, I'll go Hansie. A tough cookie, won a series in India long before the Aussies could accomplish the feat.

Yeah gotta go Hansie. I guess you have to take the match-fixing rubbish into account, but still, what Hansie accomplished with SA was amazing. He was a great leader.

As Fratboy said, got a test series win in India which was amazing.

Guys if it's not too much hassle could you please place your choice in bold just so I can distinguish between discussion and an actual vote. Thanks alot.

Both were great captains but I'll go with Cronje for reasons already mentioned by Jono and Fratboy.

Richie Benaud

One of the best ever skippers. Probably the best of all time.

Perm! Can you also add win/loss ratio of the captain when you are presenting the stats for each poll? I have found it to be a useful tool in discussing captains. for example, if a skipper wins ten matches and loses only four he is better than some one who wins ten and loses eight, isn't he? can you pl consider this suggestion?

I agree with your point about a skipper that wins 10 and loses 4 is better than somewin with a 10/8 ratio. But I've posted the percentage and how many times each captain has lead their team and how many wins and losses they have recorded. I think any other stats would be unnecessary, feel free to work out the ratio for yourself though bagapath. Sorry.

Close call for this one. Cronje did a lot for South African cricket and took them close to the top in both forms of the game, however Benaud is often called Australia's best ever captain.
