Cricket Web: All-Time Legend
Vaas there will now always be a doubt about Aktars destructive abilities, how they were achieved?

You might as well vote Ben Johnson "top sprinter ever", imho.

It wasn't just his pace that allowed him to take wickets, it was his ability to out think the batsman. Pace was also a big factor, but not as big as people would like to think.

Heh, first time I've heard that.

Well he does, from what I've seen. He wouldn't have been lethal without his pace but he'd still be a very good bowler and pickup wickets at under 30, IMO.

Shoaib Akhtar ( A living legend and a different personality, currently trapped in some sort of a scam ) !

Really tough matchup, I actually really like both these bowlers.

Overall, I'll go for Vaas, mainly on the grounds of consistent effort through thick or thin. Chronically underrated, a very wily bowler who frequently plays on surfaces not that helpful. I think he's given a great deal of respect by batsmen around the world, and he's definitely earned it.

When on song, the Shoaib is an excitement machine, and there are few sights as satisfying as when he's skittled somebody's stumps out of the ground. But his attitude has always been in question, and his illegal substance use doesn't help, although I don't view it in quite the same condemning way as match-fixing. (To be honest, I'm not sure his substance abuse would have changed my vote either way.)

vaas is most of the time just a supporting cast member. very poor strike rate and a good but expensive bowling average. and only about 3.5 wickets per test. sorry chaminda.

shoaib is (was) a devastating center stage performer. his high quality express pace bowling was akin to gladiatorial showdowns.
