Round of 16, Battle 1

We shall define a legend of cricket on the basis of the following criteria:

- An influential figure who made a significant impact on the way the game is played on the field.
- An influential figure who remained involved in and made significant contributions to the game off the field.
- A hero or an icon who served as an inspiration for others (cricketers as well as the general public) and will be remembered for years to come.
- Remember that a legend is defined not merely by cricket records but also by aura, impact and legacy.

Battle 1

Malcolm Marshall (fast bowler, 376 test wickets @ strike rate 46.22, average 20.95)

versus

Garry Sobers (all-rounder, considered as the greatest all-round cricketer ever, hit six sixes in an over)

This battle will close after 12 hours (or earlier if it's a no contest IMO) with a lead of at least 5. Otherwise, it will close after 24 hours.

Malcom Marshall is my choice cuz I am a fast bowling fan and I have never witnessed any other 'compact dynamite of a lethal class' better than Malcom . A true legend and has only a point or two less than Shoaib Akhtar in my book .

MASSIVE battle. I guess the final 16 will have plenty of tough match-ups. I consider Marshall to be the best pace bowler of all time. But in terms of who's more "legendary", it has to be Sir Gary Sobers. Probably the most complete cricketer ever, his heroics are legendary stuff indeed.
