Battle of the Cricketers

Almost tempted to vote for Sutcliffe to make sure he gets one, he is one of only 4 players to have averaged more than 60 & scored over 2000 test runs, but really I have go with Flower too. Averaged over 50 whilst keeping wicket in a mediocre team (although in retrospect the team in his day looks like the golden age for Zimbabwean cricket!) & a brave man of principle to boot.

Both undeniably great players who will live forever in the minds of anyone with more than a passing interest in the sport, but Herbert Sutcliffe needs and deserves more votes. Had Flower played in the 20s and 30s and Sutcliffe in the 90s and 00s, the score in this battle of two true greats may well have been reversed.

May I point out that Sutcliffe's average in Tests is actually higher than his much celebrated opening partner Jack Hobbs.

Trueman, out and out fast bowler, then expert swing-bowler.

Warne will win though, so my vote is really just tokenism.
