Comparing Trumper to Afridi is a joke. There's a reason that one of them was considered the greatest batsman of his age and the other is considered a bit-part slogger who can't even cement a place in a test side.C_C said:That may be your opinion, but rating Trumper ahead of Tendulkar is like rating Afridi ahead of Brian Lara- sheer folly.

Hayden overall... not sure. Hayden in his purple patch over Richards in his decline though, definately.Deja moo said:Richards.
Interesting question: Richards in the latter part of his career or Hayden overall ?
right but are there enough reasons to think that trumper was a greater batsman than tendulkar? i obviously haven't seen him play, read a little about him but nothing to suggest that this could be so....FaaipDeOiad said:Comparing Trumper to Afridi is a joke. Oh well, I suppose the main reasoning people might offer would be the conditions he played in. Trumper batted with minimal protective gear on poorly prepared, uneven and uncovered wickets, and still managed to not only score plenty of runs but do it with a style and flair that was completely breathtaking. He was a legendary player of his time and widely regarded as the greatest ever until Hobbs and Bradman came along. Some cricket writer or another (I forget who, but I remember Benaud quoting him) said that Australian cricket has had many great players, but only two legends of the game, which were Trumper and Bradman. People would come to the ground just to see him, and bowlers were honoured to take his wicket.Anil said:right but are there enough reasons to think that trumper was a greater batsman than tendulkar? i obviously haven't seen him play, read a little about him but nothing to suggest that this could be so....
Trumper is to Afridi as Viv is to Tendulkar. Simple as that.FaaipDeOiad said:Comparing Trumper to Afridi is a joke. There's a reason that one of them was considered the greatest batsman of his age and the other is considered a bit-part slogger who can't even cement a place in a test side.

Actually EVEN Bradman said himself that had he been playing in this era, he wouldnt have averaged more than 60!C_C said:A 35-36 average dude, playing in the day of amatuer namby pamby potbellied players, playinf cricket on the weekends and evenings while holding a day job, in an era where any Tom **** and Harry that bowled really fast or turned it a lot was a demon bowler doesnt come within the same galaxy as one of the greatest batsmen of the professional era facing far superior bowling opposition and doing far better and averaging near 60.
