Yeah I'm fairly sure they were. I think a lot of the myth around his opening ability comes from the fact that the times he did well opening were frequently the old Saturday Mercatile Mutual Cup games on 9.

Because of 'Sunday', Adelaide always joined the telecast about an hour late for those games. Heard "For those of you who've just joined us, wow you missed a great knock by Brad Haddin" every bloody time. In all seriousness, never got to see a ball of those knocks. **** Channel 9, **** Sunday and **** Haddin.

Haddin has got too lose a technique too last the new-white ball which swings quite a bit for the first 7-8 overs, Haddin is clean striker of the cricket ball and a good player of spin, so he could prove a lot more handy in the middle-overs or the death overs, and Haddin has played a few very good knocks in ODI cricket batting in the lower middle order to back this claim.

Won't be a bad idea to give Klinger a game or two somewhere down the line between all these ODI games and see how he goes at the international level.

He's had a couple of good seasons in OD cricket to be fair, but I do agree. The problem is that unless you want to retain Hayden, there aren't a lot of openers to choose from. Katich scores too slowly at the top of the order in one day cricket, Marsh is having a poor season, Hughes has done very little in this format of the game, Dighton would get murdered at international level and Hopes isn't good enough to bat in a specialist batting position in ODIs. Watson and Jaques, who'd be my two picks, are injured.

Marsh will more than likely be one opener but unless Hayden is selected - and even though I support his position in the Test team at the moment, I can't see much reason to continue to play him in one dayers - there isn't a particularly good candidate to open the batting with him.

i thought he went alright up there, but sadly cricket has changed, and the anchor role is almost redundant.

marsh will play regardless, i think hopes will go in if hayden doesn't play, but i'd be tempted to blood someone.

don't think he will open, but there's far worse options, he'd probably do ok

Why, he's been much better in ODIs than tests in the last couple of years, unless your suggesting they need to rebuild

Because there's not a snowball's chance in hell of Hayden being around in 2011.

Guys like Marsh, Hopes, Hughes etc. need as much time as possible in the side to build for the next World Cup. Keeping Hayden in the side for the next couple of series is a waste of 10 games' worth of experience that some of the less experienced players would find invaluable.

He had a crack for Victoria at one point, but I don't actually remember how sucessful it was. I have a vague memory of it coming off in a couple of one day games but being a failure in the Shield, but I'm far from certain of that.

We could do worse (and probably will) but I'd still be far from confident with him TBH.

i don't recall, but i don't see any reason why a number 3 shouldn't be able to open, apart from ponting... but it's still unlikely, and i'd be personally glad to see him fail
