Australia's 2022 World Cup Bid

Nothing against my Qatari brothers, I'm sure they're nice people. However:

- population 1.7million
- never qualified for a World Cup
- 50 degrees at game time
- nothing to do in Qatar
- no alcohol permitted.

It's great that an Arab country got it for the first time, but the above factors I think should have ensured that Qatar missed out on this occassion.

A huge reality check for Australia though to only garner one solitary vote. I guess we as a country, and it is cute in a way, overestimate our standing in the world, particularly the soccer world.

To be fair to them, they are helping fight the heat by building 22 air conditioned stadiums, and after the event they are dismantling them and sending them to other countries.

I can understand Australia not winning, but there are certainly places i would rather go to a world cup then Russia and Qatar.

Interesting that the English and American bids also failed dismally.

I think if Qatar can get it, anyone who plays their cards correctly can expect to get it. We have infinitely more going for us than that joke of a football nation. It's not about how much pedigree you have footballing wise.

Waking up to this news this morning was like a bad dream and we now have Brazil followed by Russia, Qatar. Dear oh dear :( You really do have to question whether any of these countries will host a decent event.
woah, what's wrong with Brazil?

This all bringing the region together talk is BS.

Most of these FIFA voting members won't be arround by 2018 let alone 2022,so they could care less about how the world cup is then and also how it brings region together or divides it.

They just want to fill their pockets, right now.
And the two dictatorships where there is no transparency and accountability made it easier for them to be paid ,as opposed to other democratic countries where the media also could and did exposed them.

Yeah it definitely is. Though it's considered to be one of the more western-ised states in the middle east, it is still very strict in this regard.
Apparently it's like Dubai where you can get alcohol in certain premises.

I'd imagine they'll need to provide some sort of provision for fans that want a beverage in fan zones - I can't imagine giving a World Cup would go down too well with Budweiser if there wasn't some sort of provision for fans to get a beer.

is alcohol a must thing in football stadium ? if it is for sponsorship think qatar can host it it with out any sponsorship from such companies

if i am correct English fans are not allowed to have alcohol in Indian stadium during cricket matches rite ?

i would say take out the automatic qualification rule for host other wise i would be embarrassed to see India get trashed 20-0 ..when ever we get to host the game :)

What happens when in 2021 FIFA realise they've made a mistake, and none of the countries will travel there due too security concerns?

There are only 400,000 Qatari nationals with the balance made up of expats who do all the work and are totally expendable

Anyone who can afford to, i.e. the locals who live on handouts and the well paid expats (vast minority btw), leave for a month or more during summer as the place is uninhabitable

In an effort to take the WC to the "people" (i.e. Qatari nationals), they plan to build a 54,000 seat stadium in a town of 4,500 people

I've been there many times and, like virtually everyone else, hate the place

If I'm still in the region at that time, literally the only way I'd attend the WC is if I could fly in on the morning of the game and fly out that night

Hmm.

Absolutely overflowing with money though. Not that this might have in any way influenced FIFA's decision .
