Sometimes it can be. But the VC for Lyon wouldn't be a bad idea. He leads the team song, I think he's got a healthy relationship with the players

But then if Smith does get a broken finger or something you're left with:

option A: Lyon as Test captain, or
option B: Make someone else captain for a game and then everyone gets confused at to why Lyon was VC if you weren't going to make him captain in any case. And he might get annoyed himself.

I wouldn't want to be in either situation

Very similar to this situation, where then Botha wasn't playing and Lyon was captain for the match.
It didn't turn out that well (200 run loss to QLD) but SA weren't a strong side at all at the time.

You might have said it, but I see no real reason why he would be.

My judge of character and perception is so freakishly good that it scares me, and sometimes I forget that others don't have the same gifts. I apologise for that. The thought of Lyon as captain just makes me a bit sick in the stomach, even more so than the thought of Warner as captain.
