Australian test selection thread 2015/16

**** I'm dirty with the vice captaincy decision.
No other options. One thing Rogers did retiring now was throw away a chance to captain Aus in a test. Just a Smith injury away from being Aust test captain if he'd played on.

Why on earth couldn't it be Lyon?

Should have been Lyon before Warner.

S Marsh and Khawaja. I see mediocrity is still good enough despite Watson's retirement. Sigh.

In fairness having S Marsh in the touring party does give the Aussie bowlers great practice in the nets in preparation for Imrul Kayes.

100%

From my experience vice captaincy is so far from equalling 'next best tactical captain'. It should be the bloke most capable of offering the captain, team and squad support. It should be a player who leads by actions and is a core part of the team. Nathan Lyon should have been vice captain ahead of Warner. To give it to Voges, who was a bee's dick away from being dropped and marked never to play again, is insulting.

I kind of agree that not giving Lyno the VC is a bit sus. Maybe he's too much of a shrinking violet? Don't know, but as said being VC doesn't even mean you're the next Captain cab off the rank as Haddin showed this summer. I agree it's harder for keepers and bowlers to captain, but not impossible and many of both have made very good leaders.

That said I think if Smitteh were to break a leg Voges is probably the guy you'd turn to as a stand in Captain so that's probably why he got the gig.

Warner really isn't the wrong choice nor is Voges, both have good experience captaining/vice captaining, nothing to suggest apart from some hot unsubstantiated juice on Warner that either of them aren't team men.

Gaz would be a nice choice, legend of the people, great team man, but i'm guessing the selectors want a VC ready to go rather than one who hasn't done much if not no captaincy at Domestic level.

Really surprised by the backing Lyon has in this thread as a captaincy aspirant.

Seems obvious to me that he is about as far from a leader of men as you can get
