Many bringing Pakistan discussion in forums and comments but overall situation in Bangladesh is no where close to Pakistan. If a team does not feel safe, they have the right not to tour but I hope we are not being completely screwed from hosting games because that does not sit right. People need to remember we hosted two successive world cups (50/T20) in few years, Asia cups, NZ toured BD regularly in the last years, India, Pakistan and South Africa recently visited without a single fiasco.

What I have been reading is that DFAT put out alerts not only in Bangladesh but also the same in some other countries like Malaysia. It would have been dumb not to send Australian security personals to visit BD. They had meetings with top security forces and interior ministers from BD. They said they will provide presidential security and also ready to provide further more security which no team received in past history in BD. Now the occurence of yesterday with the Italian national likely to set things back even further. As a living citizen here, I can tell only what I can observe. Situation is stable for living in a sense we don't have any fear of something happening to us while out in the streets. But these terrorist groups work in very different way which is unknown. Maybe Australian agencies have in depth information and they don't feel right for their team to tour. Understandable. I think it's for the best interest that the tour not to proceed under these circumstances.

Genuine question - has anyone ever been attacked in BD while being under presidential security?

A lot has happened in that time since the T20 World Cup and the NZ tour though you have to admit. But let us suppose the ISIS claim to the killing of the Italian national is accurate for a moment. Lets presume any contacts in Bangladesh have brains also. The Australian team is 150% more juicy a goose to pick than attacking neutrals in SA, Pakistan and India, thus scaring us off at a later time.

I know Bangladesh is no Pakistan in regards to blatant risk, but if CA thinks there's a credible enough risk it shouldn't go ahead. Doesn't only put our team at risk but innocent Bangladeshis also. Cricket is just a game at the end of the day.

Just on this, the way ****s like IS et al operate, you'd think there's always gonna be concerns about the Western teams touring some places for the foreseeable future.

Totally don't mean that to sound like I'm an asshole bigot, but how easy will it be in certain places for IS to say there's a threat to some high profile cricketers whether there is or isn't?

As disappointing as it is that the tour is off I can fully understand it if the authorities have told CA that there is a risk if they go. **** happens.

For me it is Nic Maddinson, Gurinder Sandhu and Jon Holland.

Yeah probably this. Holland really should have jagged a couple of ODIs by now, but he always gets injured at the worst times.

Sandhu is developing into a very good ODI bowler, and Mad Dog is way too talented not to succeed, surely? #SMarsh2.0Incoming

There's still plenty of talent around, but realizing the potential before it's too late.

Guys under 25, those fringe guys need to put the scores up and the selectors need to pick them. Here's hoping!
Lyon hit a purple patch in England, now a good series at home could set him up.

I like Sandhu a lot but I'm not entirely sure what he should do to get ahead of the fast bowling talent the Aussies have for the future. He gets enough nibble to be dangerous in most parts of the world and I get the feeling he's one of those quiet Ryan Harris types, no break-out performances in the early days but just gradually learns and assimilates how to get top-class bats out. So, does he keep honing the bowling knowing that the competition is going to be intense against Cummins, Pattinson, etc. or does he develop his batting a bit because he can bat relatively well too so could be handy? Tough one. Bowls handy offies too, doesn't he?

What is it with Aussies and seamers who start bowling offspin all of a sudden, esp. in the SC? Colin Miller, Andrew Symonds and now this Sandhu?

To me, the way forward for him might be in that stock bowler/third seamer role to be vacated by Siddle. Hit the deck and nibble it around, be reliable, bat well and bowl some Funky offies if need be in the SC. He'll never compete for fast bowling ***iness alongside the other guys around, but he can definitely be a valuable 'more than the sum of his parts' type player IMO.

Only problem there is he may have to compete with Forkers for that #8 slot, so Can-Do may end up the perennial 12th man ala Andy Bichel

He definitely has to focus on his bowling though, IMO.

Yeah trying to put forward his case as a #8 would make some sense if the more fancied bowlers were rabbits, I actually think Pattinson and Starc have more to work with as batsmen than Sandhu in the first place, and Cummins certainly isn't a mug in that regard either. It's not going to be a point of difference for him selection-wise no matter how hard he works on it, IMO.
