Australian test selection 2019-2020

Since its a pink ball game does that give Neser's claims more validity?
Yeah I was thinking this too. It's not like Pattinson is a straight up and down bowler so I'd still pick him anyway, but I could see the selectors overthinking it and picking Neser for this reason. Honestly I wouldn't be up in arms about it either even though I think most of CW would be.

It will be interesting to see the media pile on if Green gets another score today, even though he is currently being managed from bowling.

He's currently averaging 76 in the shield @ no.6 and it's being left to he and S.Marsh to save the game again today, first match against NZ will be in his home state.

With only a Bangladesh tour between now and the Indian 20/21 tour, do the Aussie selectors have the patience to wait to then or even South Africa away in 18 months in 2021 and then the Test Championship right after to introduce him?

Current scheduling makes it an interesting conundrum.

The following lineup looks fairly formidable moving forward if they can get a few of these players going for different reasons:

Warner
Burns
Labuchagne
Smith
Pucovski
Green
Carey
Cummins
Starc
Lyon
Hazlewood

I doubt Pucovski will get a game any time soon. Wade/Head have barely gotten a bat this summer and are the incumbents. Batsmen don't usually get dropped when they haven't done anything wrong.

I'm definitely a Green fan, have been since he burst on the scene at 17, but calls to fasttrack him are somewhat premature, especially considering he isn't bowling right now

Pucovski also needs to be at a point where his health issues are sufficiently in check that he's likely to get through a series if he's selected.

Tbf we'd already decided we wanted Marsh over Head during the ashes

And this guy is Mitch Marsh except good

Unless we get an MCG 17 or WACA 15 esque wicket (which is possible for the last two Tests I guess) I wouldn't want us picking Green. He does look the goods though.

Whatever it takes!!!
Apparently, 23 is the age bowlers attain bone maturity, whatever that means. So maybe they will hold off on blooding in Green until then? Its not like the current side needs any more bowling options. They are hardly using Head and Steve Smith as of now. And Bancroft is a good concussion sub as he can bat anywhere in the order and even come in as a keeper in a pinch, though you already have Wade in the XI for that.

EDIT: Also, for those who have seen him bowl, are his 140+ stuff more like Watto than Patto? :)

As a bowler I am not entirely sure what he actually clocks on the speed gun, but there is a lot to like about him as a bowler. Has that rare ability to get swing the ball away while still hitting the deck hard and getting plenty of bounce. Honestly still believe his bowling is his stronger skill, providing he can stay on the park.

Everyone should watch his Shield 5 for on debut at 17, no teenage Australian paceman has looked that good since Cummins

To be entirely fair, if they had to pick an allrounder right now that wasn't just a cheat on that term, and he was fit to bowl, he's who I'd pick. He's arguably already done more in First Class cricket than Marcus Stoinis.

But that's just a great point supporting my "hey lets not pick an allrounder for the sake of it" stance right now. I'd sooner pick Patto or Henriques and just pretend they were allrounders even though they aren't if I had to, and I'd much sooner just pick a sixth batsman.
