Australian test selection 2018/19

- shane warne has said pick him
That too. I mean logically you look at his first class record and think no chance. But in a one-off game before a ODI series in a World Cup year, getting Short more exposure means that the decision isnt horrible, particulary down at like 7-8 (opening would be really dumb).

I dont care if it doesnt happen, but would I be keen to see how he bats and bowls? Yes.

I know people will lolz at this decision but I wouldnt be amazed if D'arcy Short is number 457.

- Western Australian born
- in our white ball setup
- performing well in the Big Bash
- SCG normally spins

Imagine:
M. HARRIS
C. BANCROFT
U. KHAWAJA
T. HEAD
A. FINCH
T. PAINE
P. CUMMINS
D. SHORT
M. STARC
N. LYON
J. HAZLEWOOD

I realize the order looks funky from 6 to 8. I know SMarsh probably deserves a spot above Finch but I feel like Arun needs at least one chance in the middle order.

Im also convinced that JL has dreamt up a Harris+Bancroft combination since taking over so lets see how it works. In theory, it should be ok.

I also think that placing Finch at 5 makes him the most replaceable when Smith returns who would go 4 and Head shuffles down 1.

Paine is so high for 6, but screw it, he at least gets behind the ball (like Cummins does) so let them be rewarded and completely take the pressure off Short.
I love it for its lack of Marshes.

Anyone else find it infuriatingly arrogant of them to needlessly pick a squad for a whole home series and leave out batsmen better and better performing than the ones picked and then refuse to countenance any changes despite repeated failures?

All on Langer & his brand of bs

Actually, why was the useless vegetarian even on the park? Time was the 12th man would be released and you’d have the best local state/ first grade fielder act as sub. If we had someone like that instead of Pete Duddle on the park, we’d probably need about 50 to win tomorrow instead of 140.

What a **** he is.

Imagine Australia being 6/80 odd and Cummins and Short put on 260? Would be a good watch.

Why with the weakness of the current side with players missing and stupidly picking the Marsh boys who clearly aren't good enough is Maxwell not getting a look in. If he was coming in at 5 or 6 at least the opposition would be worried he may tee off and take a game away from them, the current line up has no player that can do that (well Finch I guess but he is useless too) so the batting goes nowhere fast.

That's not really the issue at all. We don't need players who can tee off

Just thinking about his dismissals. I can only think of 1 that was because of the new ball that he might have got away if he was in the middle order and that was nipping back through the gate.

Others caught short midwicket, a straight full one for LBW, caught down leg-side, against spin etc

Finch's greatest strength is getting starts and I just think it is better suited to the new ball. He than goes 1 of 2 ways when he gets his start, his innings slows down and he gets frustrated or he carries on through with the aggression. I guess that is why he is a limited overs player.

Khawaja is the only batsman in the country that is international standard.

I find it very difficult to rank Renshaw, Burns, Harris, Finch, S Marsh, M Marsh, Head, Handscomb, Maxwell and Labuschagne on ability. They are all capable of scoring runs but it's very unlikely they will. It almost doesn't matter who they pick.

For Victoria Finch has been miles better in the middle order. I know it might not matter where he bats, he could fail anywhere, but its just a different ball game up front. I feel like some of his shots are just trying to put some pressure on the bowlers and its failing spectacularly. In the first innings Ishant set him up beautifully.

TBH id be happy with him at 4 and Head 5 in the XI I named. Also not sure why I wrote that Short was WA born.. from NT but yeah Langer is going to want some WACA boys.

Also I have to 100 percent concede that Peter M Siddle has played his last Test.
