Probably all within a standard deviation of their ability levels.

Khawaja the one who's definitely under-performed relative to his ability, but I guess he has an excuse

I honestly don't know how the bowlers haven't exploited Head's technical weakness better.

Why don’t you give him a bit of credit though? Bloke has limitations but obviously has a good eye and has made some valuable runs, which puts him ahead of virtually everyone in the batting line up.

Since our hands are tied with squad already picked, I'm now going this as our last chance to win at SCG

Harris
Paine
Khawaja
Handscomb
Smarsh
Head
Finch
Cummins
Starc
Lyon
Hazlewood

They really need a fifth bowler for Sydney. Advanced forecast is pretty warm. I don’t know that it will spin all that much, I hope they juice the **** out of it, personally.

So stupid they’re committed to this squad when there’s six states worth of cricketers in the country and available.

If they weren’t ****ing ******** and it was open slather, I’d be tempted to go with

Harris
Burns
Khawaja
Maxwell
Darsh
Head
Paine
Cummins
Starc
Lyon
Haze

Cupboard is pretty bare. I’d be tempted to drop one of Darsh and Head and bring in a right hander but there aren’t many options aside from a kid who’s been scoring pretty heavily for Sutherland and he apparently isn’t available til March.

they may well choose to go open slather anyway, but I hope the ex players in the media who fuel this and the selectors remember the results of the last time we did this, after Hobart 16.

2 years on and Renshaw, Handscomb, Maddinson & Wade aren't in the team and weren't in the team in December 2017. It's well and good to make all the changes, but you need to pick correctly...

Assuming that we’re stuck with the same squad, it’s time to rearrange the deck chairs on the Titanic

Shaun Marsh is a massive talent BUT a terrible starter who is far more likely to be part of a collapse than preventing one

He’s got a good record as opener so play him there

Harris probably should go back to fc but ....

Uzi should open but nobody else can bat 3

4 is a massive worry but with 3 lefties up top, we need a right hander

In a perfect world, MMarsh/Finch/the comb would be sent back to fc but we need someone so Handscomb for mine as I reckon he’s the most likely

Head

Paine

MMarsh by default

Etc etc

IF the selectors recognise their mistakes, then the absolute minimum that should happen is to include Burns (in the middle order btw) and Agar for MMarsh (no way he’ll be worse)

Personally, I would blow up the top 6 with only Uzi & Head being safe

When did picking a squad for home series happen? It seems so idiotic. The whole country should be available for home series... Even me.
Also don't like the big bash timing. How is a player supposed to master his long form technique when he probably just gets in the groove and is then asked to smash the ball around before some more shield at the end when it's too late to mean anything. Big bash should be at seasons end.

Who cares if the squad was already announced. Just call up some "replacements" for resting/injury if needed and go with the below IMO.

Renshaw
Harris
Khawaja
Burns
Maxwell
Head
Paine
Cummins
Starc
Lyon
Hazlewood

Edit: And piss off Siddle for Tremain as reserve bowler.

I know people will lolz at this decision but I wouldnt be amazed if D'arcy Short is number 457.

- Western Australian born
- in our white ball setup
- performing well in the Big Bash
- SCG normally spins

Imagine:
M. HARRIS
C. BANCROFT
U. KHAWAJA
T. HEAD
A. FINCH
T. PAINE
P. CUMMINS
D. SHORT
M. STARC
N. LYON
J. HAZLEWOOD

I realize the order looks funky from 6 to 8. I know SMarsh probably deserves a spot above Finch but I feel like Arun needs at least one chance in the middle order.

Im also convinced that JL has dreamt up a Harris+Bancroft combination since taking over so lets see how it works. In theory, it should be ok.

I also think that placing Finch at 5 makes him the most replaceable when Smith returns who would go 4 and Head shuffles down 1.

Paine is so high for 6, but screw it, he at least gets behind the ball (like Cummins does) so let them be rewarded and completely take the pressure off Short.
