Australian Test Selection 2016/2017

The normal awards that everyone else has
Don't mind the Cartright selection. At least they're picking a guy to bat in the top 6 who is averaging 45 in FC cricket, plus he can chip in with the ball.

Hope he goes really well. Reckon they're gonna play him too, listening to Hohns talking about concerns over Starc and Haze's workloads in Bris

im not really sure that wade would be any worse in india conditions than he would in australian btw.

Seems more like a Watson - get through ten overs without leaking too much - rather than a Marsh selection. They'd be happy with 0/25 a day from him, with the odd wicket, which allows Starc (especially) to be used in short spells.

A lot smarter of a way to use an all-rounder if you want them to bat Top 6 IMO.

Cartwright's economy rates doesn't quite suggest that though.....

like covering the bounce of the ball and what not. he won't be any good. but i'm not really expecting anything markedly worse

Cartwright is one of my bois. Gun.

Be prepared to be disappointed with his bowling if he plays though, I reckon. He's a batsman who bowls and I think he'll develop more and more in that direction as time goes on.

one of those times you needed the camera on him, so you could see his **** eating grin

I wonder if Cartwright isn't also a pointer that the option of bringing SOK in and playing two spinners at the SCG again is being left open, Especially as a taster for India.

I like Cartwright but his form this year isn't exactly screaming pick me. Still hope he comes in for Mad Dog. Hard to see his bowling being more than steady at best, but if we can get 8-10 reasonably tight overs out of him a day that will help. And if he can manage to average even just 35 batting 6 that will be about 10 runs per innings better than we've had for a long time. (I think he's a better bat than that though)

Cartwright is a much better selection than Mad Dog.

He's comfortably better than him with the bat, and serviceable enough with the ball that he can pick up 4/5 overs a session from Starc to let him bowl sharper spells.

thought Maddinson was selected over Patterson so he could bowl the 4/5 overs a session.

If you project the G.Chappell methodology, of promoting young talent, into the future, it means there would be a constant turn over of the team in order to select the new wonderkids each year.

If all you want is 5-10 overs a day pick Travis Head. Least he's got something as a batsman (that his figures admittedly don't completely reveal). To guard against a possible 4th innings blow out as happened in Brisbane I'd go Forkers.
