Agar ruled out of the World Cup. Makes selection a bit simpler. I doubt they will pick a second specialist spinner if it's going to be Tanveer Sangha, probably will rely on Maxwell for 2nd spin duties.

Aussies made a massive blunder. You can't go into the WC in subcontinent with one front line spinner. Maxwell did well last game, but he will have more bad games than good with the ball. He won't get you 4 fors every game.
Agar would be dearly missed and to replace him with a batsman will prove costly for Australia.

I mean you can say that, but in practice who do AUS bring in? **** the conditions, we don't have a second frontline spinner who's better than Cummins in these conditions.

Yeah, I mean if Lyon was fit they probably would have brought him in. I'm not sure what Murphy's LO record is like

I'm not sure how often we would've played two front line spinners but Stoin should've been punted for Tanveer or Chris Green as cover for Zampa. They could've kept Inglis just outside of the squad too.

The problem with that Inglis option is that Carey might just have a minor injury and be out for 1-2 games. Wouldn't want to entirely replace him if he was going to be back, and equally wouldn't want Warner keeping for 2 games. So there needs to be two viable keeping options in the squad.

They took the easy way out with Zampa's injury really and just included Marnus without dropping anyone. If they were as ruthless as they should be then they'd have picked between Stoinis and Green to include Marnus and then included Sangha or whoever they thought the #3 spinner was for Agar.

If Zampa has a short-term injury in the middle of the tournament we're either going to see him replaced forever even though he'll be fit later, or Head or Maxwell playing as #1 spinners in India in a WC for a few games.

It was just cowardly. "We want this guy in, and this guy is injured. Let's take the easy way out."

It’s not ideal but I’d risk that scenario re Inglis for Carey even if a temporary injury forced a permanent replacement.

But if Stoin is axed then the solution to all problems is there. As for spinners I’m not as pessimistic as some as tanveer and green are alternatives.

Yeah stoin not getting axed to resolve this is a bit odd. I still think that 9 out of 10 times cummins is gonna be better than whatever second spinner we have, and if the deck is turning square to a point where we need a second frontline spinner and maxwell, marnus/head's part-time would be fine, but marnus for agar and tanveer/kuhnemann if fit/whoever for stoinis just seems like a better call.

makes me think of 2011 when we ruled out Hussey and Doherty before the WC started, then Doherty was playing shield cricket by the time the WC actually started and Hussey was more or less ready too, so when Bollinger got injured they flew Hussey over

tbf, I think the squads had to be picked a lot earlier in 2011 but still
