Australian Off-Season Thread (2010)

International Captain
Daniel christian would have been the likely allrounder at the t20 games, altho they still have mcdonald.
Maybe finch will replace marsh,as he is in the team.
Henriques is very lucky dropped by nsw this year to futures cup.

International Captain
Haddin out no replacement yet for the one day side and the A side,he is hopeful to play the tests but is unable to hold a bat in the hand atm.

Kylez

State Vice-Captain
Tim Paine named as Haddin's replacement for the England tour, Wade named as Paine's replacement for the A series.

Hopefully it's not a kick in the guts for Hartley and just a fact they've already seen what he can do at 'A' level.

Hartley had a bad batting series for aussie A dropped.
Played a tour game in england 18 months ago for australia.
Wade maybe be the beneficiary if haddin not fit for the tests.
BTW dan christian signed with hampshire, steve smith and clinton mckay playing, good warm uo for the one dayers.

Hartley just finished his best first class season (at least as a batsman). Not sure on the comparison with Wade's figures, but it's interesting that they've gone with Wade.

Reckon they are just testing Wade and giving him some experience. You would think Hartley next in line. But he has a few A tours already, so a good chance to give a new guy a chance.

EDIT: Interesting Wade averages 40+ in FC cricket. Maybe he is 3rd in line with those numbers.

Always thought Wade was a clear third choice tbh. Very destructive with the willow.

Wicketkeeping stocks are so strong right now. Graham Manou represented Australia in Test cricket less than 12 months ago and is now the 5th choice wicketkeeper.

Looking at the selection of Wade over Hartley for Australia A. Not what I would call a shock selection.

Hartley did indeed enjoy a breakthrough season in 2009/2010, combining his always safe wicketkeeping with good runs on the board for the first time in his seven seasons at first class level.

Wade on the other hand is six years the junior of Hartley and has had back-to-back very solid seasons statistically with the bat. Without a doubt the weaker wicketkeeper of the two, but anyone who breaks the Sheffield Shield record for catches in a season must surely know how to catch a ball.

Hartley may still be 3rd in line, but Wade has far more potential to have a very successful Test career. Good experience to be involved in the Australia A setup at his current age.

Johnson out, Hazlewood in for the OD series.
Not the worst selection. Hazlewood bowled some nice spells in the FRC last season, very awesome opportunity for a 19 year old.

Didn't leapfrog too many others to take the spot either, a number of injuries to key backup pace bowlers at the moment.

Wow, that's huge news. Excited at the idea that he might be getting a game, but it does seem awfully early, especially considering that he's leapfrogging a few others. Edit: or not.

How sweet is this, I've earmarked the fab trio (Hughes, Marsh, Hazlewood) to be our next stars and they are all on their way to being selected

Tbf you're hardly going out on a limb by backing the three biggest and most promising youngsters knocking around in Aussie cricket.

True, but I did make this call about a year ago, where guys like James Pattison, Mitchell Starc, Jon Holland, Usman Khawaja, Moises Henriques, Alaister Mcdermott were hyped up just as much.
