Centrally-contracted players: Michael Clarke, Patrick Cummins, Xavier Doherty, Brad Haddin, Ryan Harris, Ben Hilfenhaus, David Hussey, Michael Hussey, Mitchell Johnson, Nathan Lyon, James Pattinson, Ricky Ponting, Peter Siddle, Mitchell Starc, Matthew Wade, Shane Watson, David Warner
Form over the last twelve months was mentioned as one of the criteria. If that is the case why has Haddin (441 runs @ 18), Starc (15 wickets @ 35) and Johnson (27 wickets @ 35) been selected whereas Lee (38 wickets @ 24) hasn't? Only Hilfenhaus (47), Siddle (43), Lyon (43) and Watson (41) took more wickets than Lee over the last 12 months for Australia. The sevteen includes only one batsman under 30. Dohery took 34 wickets @ 32 for Australia in the last year whereas Cowan scored only 358 runs @ 30. 700 runs and / or 30 wickets in the calender year should be the minimum standard required to win a CA contract. Cummins is a youngster with a lot of ability and has been fast tracked after taking 6-79 on his test debut.
NSW will need to reduce their 29 man squad for next year as Phil Hughes, Usman Khawaja, Steve Smith, Nathan Hauritz, Doug Bollinger and Brett Lee have lost their CA contracts although Dave Warner and Mitchell Starc have got CA contracts. Simon Katich, Phil Jacques, Stuart Clark and Beau Casson have retired from Australian cricket. It would not surprise me to see ****ley and the five rookie players released with Kurtis Patterson who scored hundred on debut and Josh Lalor who took 14 wickets in the Sheffield Shield making the step up.
