Australian off season domestic 2012/13

The guy struggles to average over 40 in FC cricket over a long career. What makes you think he would average more in Test cricket.

I could see him do something similar to North and average 40 plus over a short period, then drop back down to mid 30s.
Improvement over time? He's exponentially better than he was when he first came onto the scene.

Lions won the toss and batting.

Australia A team listed as:
EJM Cowan*, LM Davis, M Klinger, PJ Forrest, JA Burns, TLW Cooper, TD Paine†, MG Johnson, JM Bird, JM Holland, NM Lyon

Lions in a canter.
Dutchy over McDermott and c00ps over Christian baffling selections. Plus no Smithy, which is strange.

Cowan said prior to the game that "The best eleven will be on the park for the Lions games."

Firstly if they really believe that, then Bailey rates below Klinger, Forrest, Burns and Cooper. Burns I'd agree with, but the others?

Secondly if they really believe that then they should reduce the meds. ****ing awful line up. Two quicks, one of whom is Johnson, with no all rounder? Lyon and Holland are sure going to get plenty of overs.

Following a quick twitter check, McDermott is in the country, and NCN is unconfirmed #ausawatch2012

Alister Mcdermott is also studying real estate, which raises all sorts of questions

Apart from last season he has never averaged more then 50 in FC domestic cricket. If he does that for another season or two I would agree he is exponentially better then at the start of his career. One good season doesn't make up for 7 average seasons.

Mike Hussey for example had a similar start to his domestic career in Australia. But the two seasons before he made the Australian side he averaged over 50, well 60s and 70s.

If he preforms at that level for a couple season, he could average more in Test cricket then FC cricket. But at present he had only one really good season.

11 or 13, depending on just what the deal with NCN & McDermott is.

To be fair, Lions are playing Tredwell, Kerrigan with Patel as another option. Lancs have played quite a few games with two spinners the past year or so; more so at Liverpool than Manchester though.

Lions batting looks relatively weak and the balance looks all wrong, not sure why Tredwell's playing when they could have played the extra batsmen in Hildreth or someone, even without him we've got 5 bowlers.

Yes no real 3 or 4 in lineups not that Hildreth is really a 3 or (4 for that matter). With fitness issues over Swann it's important Tredwell is kept in the reckoning especially with this winter in mind. Who is even challenging Tredwell for the second right arm offspinners spot?

Looks like AusA are going to have the pleasure of watching Compton bat for 60 overs for 50

This. Improvement over time. Also, Hobart isn't the easiest venue for batting.

Any idea why Bailey isn't playing in this match ?

Surely ahead of Forrest & Cooper.

Hughes & Khawaja walk into this 'A' side if not playing County Cricket?

Pity about the young quicks, just can't seem to strike it lucky with Pattinson & Cummins ito injuries. Where does Josh Hazelwood currently stand ? I know he had that injury but played quite a bit last season didn't he ?

Most t20 players are in a Darwin camp, which they called up 8 spinners in prep for UAE matches and Srilanka. So Bailey and Starc are there.:-O

Pretty much degrades the 'A' tour as its not really the AUS 'A' team if players leave for a training camp.

But I suppose answers to some questions about players can be found out on this tour. So does bring some value.
