Australian Off Season 2017

Midwinter

Geeves is not having a go at Hussey in the article but he doesn't leave you in any doubt about what he thinks of Cricket Tasmania and what Cricket Tasmania thinks of him !

Giving the Tassie's teams performance over the last couple of years he is right to be concerned.

Their is a joke going round, that they are the 2nd Cricket Australia team.
They certainly lost a lot of players the last 3/4 seasons.

In the Geeves article he mentioned a group of Tasmanian's to have played for Australia. Any idea why Butterworth was included? I definitely know he didn't play an International, but did he make an Australian XI on a tour and play in a warmup game or something?

He's either counting Australia A, Australia Under 19s or he's just wrong.

I thought it was because he was man of the match in a final.

I assume he got man of the match in one of the finals he played against nsw

Luke Butterworth was in the Australian under 19 side,I seem to recall.
I always take interest in Tasmanian players picked,as I do ethnic players picked,as they are generally in the minority in an under 19 side.

Ok,fair enough.

Greg Hunt says the Australian Government will intervene closer to the time,to ensure the Ashes takes place. On Insiders.

How can the government intervene, unless it's injecting cash into the pool? They can't make the players play if the players still don't agree to terms.

Unless we're actually looking at a government overthrows the board type thing which would be really interesting.

I think I'm correct in saying during the Packer years the SCG board had said the SCG was off limits to Packer cricket but the NSW govt overthrew the board so Packer could use it for his matches. Something along these lines perhaps.

Hmm could get interesting. Didn't realise Hunt was minister for sport.

So I didnt see/hear his comments, but it looks like he might be siding with the players here?

Are states such as NSW and SA looking for a keeper? Might want to look at Queensland or Western Australia, not Tassie.
Tim Paine is looking 80% likely to sign again for the Tigers for next year, with the possibility of a second year too.

Nevill is somewhat unlikely to play for Australia again IMO, and Carey is rated by a lot of high judges. So probably not.

Exactly. Geeves is pointing out to a things that he doesn't like off the field.
Just politely pointing out where Hussey missed a point of view, not anywhere he missed the point in its entirety.
In any case made in Geeves's article and the feeling Tasmania will struggle in the Shield next year, I feel the list is there for a serious challenge at the Matador one-day cup title in the upcoming season ahead.

I posted an article sometime back that Paine had agreed to a 2 year deal.It was in Fox Sports.

Greg Hunt Interview,a bit in.
Oh and in seasons previous to this one, all six state sides would have had their list confirmed for the upcoming season around April. We're nearly in June now. I do have a couple more speculative rumours about too as we get nearer to the states finalizing their lists.
