Australian Domestic Season 2016/17

Ahhh, back to some real cricket, 5th round of the shield starts today.

Vics off to a good start having Tassie 4/58, the bowlers sharing the wickets around, including Holland.

Croweaters giving Maddinson a chance to shine with Patterson out early, Richardson being the new Worrall !

:)

Quite a few of the 1sts or 2nds did go to Melbourne University.

The vast majority of them did go to Uni of some sort. It'd be a close contest between MUCC and our mob (Camberwell) for the club with the least tradies.
Yeah, what I'd have guessed, AUCC in a similar boat. Remember hearing when I was playing there that in the old days, you had to play for them above any grade team if you were student, probably still a bit of that mentality around..

It was actually in the laws of the competition that you had to go to the University to play for them, until the mid-1990s or so. A lot of very good players found themselves doing one subject a semester to keep them there.

If you had already played for another grade club and then enrolled at the University, you would be forced to play for them - and after a certain point of the season, if you were playing in a grade below what you had at your old club, you could apply for a clearance.

Vic looking good against the Apple eaters 1/35 chasing 203

Holland looking like he may get a trip to the subcontinent by taking another 5 wickets.

Nathan Lyon getting his chance batting up the order against the Croweaters coming in at 9.

Khawaja continuing his good form 71no

14.5 Bird to Scott Boland
Jackson Bird to Scott Boland. Length ball, to wicketkeeper for 1 run, fielded by Doran.

14.6 Bird to Marcus Stoinis
OUT! Caught. Jackson Bird to Marcus Stoinis. Length ball, defending, False Shot to slips, by McDermott. Victoria end the day at 3 for 54 after a strong day in the field saw them bowl Tasmania out for 203. Scott Boland remains not out on 1 after coming in as the nightwatchman.

probably not boland's finest moment

Crazy Sam

International 12th Man
3 centuries in 3 games for Khawaja. Seems to be a clear step above the standard of Shield cricket.

Think this is the first time I've seen Richardson bowl in a manner that might get him in the Test side. He's not a big mover of the ball so I think using his natural angle in, back of a length and nipping the odd one away is his method. Looked threatening even when he wasn't taking wickets.

Moody has got some wickets, at last.

And at a reasonable economy rate, anyone know if it was due to good bowling ?
