Australian Domestic Season 2016/17

Injuries are a factor for sure. However Faulkner's game and the current setup of the Australian team is not really suited to play in home conditions. The reason being is that I don't think he is quite good enough to be the third seamer and not good enough to be a number 6 at this stage of his career. For Faulkner to play at home, I feel like we will need one of these factors:

- seaming conditions where a spinner is not needed and we bat him at 8 and he is the fourth quick.
- our keeper gets in great batting form (Bairstow type run) and moves up to 6 and we go with 5 bowling options with Faulkner at 7.

In India I definitely do think that Faulkner has the potential to be that pseudo second or third spinner / cutter who's role is to keep it tight and bowl longish spells. In fact, if the pitch is perfect for spin an interesting idea would be to play: 8. Faulkner 9. Starc 10. O'Keefe 11. Lyon

Can't drop Hazlewood in India imo.
Haze is gun so my idea isn't logical to start a series. But.. if the conditions suit and we are playing back to back Tests and if Haze has just been tidy without taking any wickets, it could be an option.

I'd be more likely to drop the worst vs spin bat and pick Faulkner at 7. If he belts 20, he's probably making more runs than someone in the top order.

Yes, you are by far one of the best and most sensible posters on this site but dropping Haze for Faulkner is absolute bat**** crazy.

Needed to say something ***ist, racist or homophobic. Would have had a bunch of cricketers come and defend him then.

Thank you. I'm not saying we must do this. I was just try to build a circumstance, however unlikely where it could be considered.

Look at Haze 2nd and 3rd Tests in SL last year where he took 2/149. Say he bowls a similar number of overs and is a bit more expensive and gets 2/175 and makes 10 total runs in 4 bats. The next pitch is so dry, turning on day 1 and only 4 days after the 2nd test is finished we want to make a change in our attack for the next game only. Do we go for the third quick in the squad, say Bird or pick his teammate Faulkner who has the ability to change his pace, cut the ball and make runs.

Again Haze is one of the best bowlers in the world and in a more likely scenario Faulkner would come in for one of the spinners who were averaging 45+ and going at 3.5 runs per over.

Also bet Wade was actually the one to give out the fine if the precedent from the 2013 Ashes is anything to show.

All Maxi had to do was tell an utter lie and say "But ahh I'll do anything for the team" at the end of every sentence and it would meet the modern expectation perfectly.

I don't think forkers would do any worse than a Mennie or bird with the Ball tbh, and he adds so much with the bat that he should be playing

Quite a few of the 1sts or 2nds did go to Melbourne University.

The vast majority of them did go to Uni of some sort. It'd be a close contest between MUCC and our mob (Camberwell) for the club with the least tradies.
That's the biggest challenge as a local cricketer IMO, just having to be in close proximity to tradies for an extended period
