8 LBW's by the Victorian bowlers in an innings. Can't recall ever seeing so many in a Shield game before.

Well the Vics are in the final, WA are out of the running.

The now traditional last round cliffhanger.

So NSW have to beat WA,, Qld have to beat the Vics.

and if SA can thrash Tassie and NSW and Qld lose they have a slight hope dependent on the Bonus Points.

If NSW, Qld and SA lose it looks like NSW.

****s, how far away from FC standard would a dude averaging 50 in Tasmania first grade be

Like I know Tasmania is barely FC standard itself but still

The shield results

Runs
Vic Harris 618, Dean 518
NSW Cowan 810, Henriques 659
Qld Burns 703, Labuschagne 622
SA Lehman 646, Cooper 619
WA Cartwright 621, Turner 614
Tas Bailey 790,Milenko 516

Cowan now leading the aggregate having scored 551 in the last 4 games, 4 completed innings, 2 not outs and one of them being a duck. An outside chance of cracking 1000 runs if he continues at this rate.
Bailey proved that if he doesn't score runs no one else in the Tassie side does either.
Cartwright now leading for WA having a couple good games.
Victorian bats have tumbled down the list with their top order struggling since the christmas break.

Bowling
Vic Holland 40,Tremain 38
NSW Somerville 32, Copeland 21
Qld George 28, Feldman 20
SA Sayers 50, Richardson 32
WA Mackin 34, Brehendorff 31
Tas Milenko 23,Stevenson 22

Sayers couldn't save SA last game, didn't take a wicket,
Holland lost to Fawad in the Vics spin battle, 2 wickets to 5.
Somerville had a quiet game.
Feldman was back this week and along with George continued their consistent seasons.

Mackin finally got a wicket after 28 in 3 games, only one wicket in the last 2 games.Brehendorff was back to reality however Moody picked up a 5for, and seems to be finally taking wickets regularly.
Milenko leading the wicket taking in Tas as well coming 2nd in their batting.

The every game in last round could have a bearing on the final.

However SA will need to thrash Tas to have any hope.

Should play him instead of Shaun "Got to go" Marsh or Usman "Wait, this pitch SPINS?" Khawaja for the Ashes tbqh.

A lot of the batsmen Tasmania actually select don't have records that good in first grade.

Anybody averaging 50 in first grade anywhere has a fair shot of some success at FC level so long as they can play pace

Tasmania first grade is supposedly very reliant on availability of the Tassie squad players - when they are around, very good, when they're not then it can be quite weak.

If I was Tasmania I'd be outsourcing like **** over the off-season, NSW has quite the meaty bench to be pilfered from.

I don't think that's the way they'll be going - if they were failing with home-grown players Marsh might have a job still.

Our depth actually looks pretty weak IMO when you consider how many of our players are perma-internationals. I think WA and Victoria has the best depth, at least for bowling.

How good would 1000 runs be for Cowan. 1000 got Voges a spot in the test team.
Voges scored 1215 runs so if Ed does reach 4 figures it's an awesome season (in particular the second half of the year) but there is still a sizeable difference between making just over and 1000 and smashing it with 1200 plus.

I'm looking forward to seeing how Lynn and Mennie go.

Good to see Lynn back but he gets way too many injuries.
The problem with bulging discs is that you can't prevent them and you can't really do anything to mitigate them and they hurt like hell. They're mostly a tall person problem and Lynn is tall.

Hope he can stay fit and push for selection in all 3 formats.
