Just a few hours to go on Greening's deadline, and no bids as yet, although I probably have priced myself out of the market with a £2M price-tag. I'm kind'a in two minds about whether I'd like to sell him or not. If he went for that sort of money then I suppose it would be a pretty good thing, as with the interest on £2m I'd be in a position to expand the ground, raking in more gate receipts, which combined with the interest on the remaining £1.8m or so, would put me in a position to have a tilt at a £2.5/£3m super player come the end of the season. Although its questionable whether BT interest is at any higher rate than BT inflation at the moment, so quite possibly I wouldn't be able to afford any better than Greening himself in any case. Plus part of me thinks that if I just persevere with Greening and sort out his Conc, then in two or so seasons time he's going to be say Wand/Resp in any case, and that's about as good as I'm ever likely to be able to afford on the transfer market,. It's just that I might be able to have that level of player a bit sooner if I were to sell Greening?...Oh I don't know, I guess whatever will be will be!
The BT inflation thing is quite interesting actually, I'm no economist, but I can't really work out how there's so much more money slugging around the game than there was when I started playing. Presumably most clubs make the majority of their money through the gate, so are people just getting more bold with their ground expansions? I mean, the inflationary pressures can't be coming from the transfer market itself, as if someone pays £3m for a player, then that's three mill they no longer have, i.e. in terms of the game as a whole, it's revenue neutral. I'm hoping that some clubs are going to get eyes bigger than their bellies, and suddenly realise that they can't afford the wages on the super players they've been buying, and will have to off-load them for whatever they can get. Though I'm by no means certain that clubs going to the wall would have a deflationary effect on the BT economy, as super players would get scarcer, and presumably therefore their value would increase - However, if there are fewer clubs bidding on them then perhaps the prices would drop after all? I don't know, but I'd be fascinated to find out - Adam, what are you studying at uni? Unfortunately I opted for history as it had the best ratio of hours in the bar to good grades!
Speaking of Greening, he finally stepped up to the plate in my blind cricket BT Cup match yesterday, rescuing me with 89* (83), as it looked for a moment that I was going to fail to chase 215! That's partly my own fault, as I got a bit ****y and set everyone apart from Greening and Staveley to V.Attacking. It was great fun, if not a little nerve racking, as I romped to 86/4 off the first ten! And it was by no means a joke attack, as they got Comp Seam in the ratings. Although my big problem is that Greening and Staveley are still utterly incapable of both playing well in the same match. In the twenty or so games in which they've played together, across all competitions, not once have both of them managed a fifty! Which is extraordinary for a High Strong/Comp and a High Sup/Feeb. I've got away with it more often than not, as Patel, Prof/Resp usually does a good job as second fiddle to which ever of them succeeds on any given day, but it's frustrating all the same.
No pops today, and probably none for a few weeks now, as all my trainees are scheduled to pop in a window three to six weeks from now. After that I'll sack all my coaches, hire ten fitness coaches, and repeat my end-of-season boot-camp ahead of FC. Last year the minimum was Med Stam, and this time around everyone will have to make Comp before graduating, with at least three going into the new term with Resp Stam.
Here's a question for you all before I go, if you were to pick a CW BT XI, who would be in it? Obviously Cuss, Watkins, and Lewis would be Adam's contribution, McCammon from Gotspin, Lovegrove from Nooga, Lisby for Scaly would have to be very close once he sorts his Stam out, Canning and Allen can't be a million miles off consideration, Duggan, Lennon, Waddell, possibly Hamshaw for Nibbs? What about Jayasuriya and Kennedy for Brenoevo?
If I've missed anyone you think should be in there, then let's hear about them, along with your thoughts on the players I've suggested. Adam, you're the man in the know, would it be possible for the CW players to come together for a one off match? Would Alan have the technology? And if so may he allow it to happen?
