This one took me by surprise, wasn't expecting him to pop for a few weeks yet:

Shaun Wynand - 19 yo, BT Rating=23,862
RH Batsman, RH Spin Bowler, superb batting form, superb bowling form, sublime
An attacking player with woeful leadership skills and woeful experience.
Stamina: competent Wicket Keeping: woeful
Batting: quality Concentration: strong
Bowling: abysmal Consistency: mediocre
Fielding: competent

And a stamina pop for Cuss. Top order is looking good now with two wonderfuls and a quality, just need to start filling out the rest of the batting lineup. Tempted to see if I can get a good price for Wynand though.

Still need two more to sign up to get this knockout underway. here

Just a few hours to go on Greening's deadline, and no bids as yet, although I probably have priced myself out of the market with a £2M price-tag. I'm kind'a in two minds about whether I'd like to sell him or not. If he went for that sort of money then I suppose it would be a pretty good thing, as with the interest on £2m I'd be in a position to expand the ground, raking in more gate receipts, which combined with the interest on the remaining £1.8m or so, would put me in a position to have a tilt at a £2.5/£3m super player come the end of the season. Although its questionable whether BT interest is at any higher rate than BT inflation at the moment, so quite possibly I wouldn't be able to afford any better than Greening himself in any case. Plus part of me thinks that if I just persevere with Greening and sort out his Conc, then in two or so seasons time he's going to be say Wand/Resp in any case, and that's about as good as I'm ever likely to be able to afford on the transfer market,. It's just that I might be able to have that level of player a bit sooner if I were to sell Greening?...Oh I don't know, I guess whatever will be will be!

The BT inflation thing is quite interesting actually, I'm no economist, but I can't really work out how there's so much more money slugging around the game than there was when I started playing. Presumably most clubs make the majority of their money through the gate, so are people just getting more bold with their ground expansions? I mean, the inflationary pressures can't be coming from the transfer market itself, as if someone pays £3m for a player, then that's three mill they no longer have, i.e. in terms of the game as a whole, it's revenue neutral. I'm hoping that some clubs are going to get eyes bigger than their bellies, and suddenly realise that they can't afford the wages on the super players they've been buying, and will have to off-load them for whatever they can get. Though I'm by no means certain that clubs going to the wall would have a deflationary effect on the BT economy, as super players would get scarcer, and presumably therefore their value would increase - However, if there are fewer clubs bidding on them then perhaps the prices would drop after all? I don't know, but I'd be fascinated to find out - Adam, what are you studying at uni? Unfortunately I opted for history as it had the best ratio of hours in the bar to good grades!

Speaking of Greening, he finally stepped up to the plate in my blind cricket BT Cup match yesterday, rescuing me with 89* (83), as it looked for a moment that I was going to fail to chase 215! That's partly my own fault, as I got a bit ****y and set everyone apart from Greening and Staveley to V.Attacking. It was great fun, if not a little nerve racking, as I romped to 86/4 off the first ten! And it was by no means a joke attack, as they got Comp Seam in the ratings. Although my big problem is that Greening and Staveley are still utterly incapable of both playing well in the same match. In the twenty or so games in which they've played together, across all competitions, not once have both of them managed a fifty! Which is extraordinary for a High Strong/Comp and a High Sup/Feeb. I've got away with it more often than not, as Patel, Prof/Resp usually does a good job as second fiddle to which ever of them succeeds on any given day, but it's frustrating all the same.

No pops today, and probably none for a few weeks now, as all my trainees are scheduled to pop in a window three to six weeks from now. After that I'll sack all my coaches, hire ten fitness coaches, and repeat my end-of-season boot-camp ahead of FC. Last year the minimum was Med Stam, and this time around everyone will have to make Comp before graduating, with at least three going into the new term with Resp Stam.

Here's a question for you all before I go, if you were to pick a CW BT XI, who would be in it? Obviously Cuss, Watkins, and Lewis would be Adam's contribution, McCammon from Gotspin, Lovegrove from Nooga, Lisby for Scaly would have to be very close once he sorts his Stam out, Canning and Allen can't be a million miles off consideration, Duggan, Lennon, Waddell, possibly Hamshaw for Nibbs? What about Jayasuriya and Kennedy for Brenoevo?

If I've missed anyone you think should be in there, then let's hear about them, along with your thoughts on the players I've suggested. Adam, you're the man in the know, would it be possible for the CW players to come together for a one off match? Would Alan have the technology? And if so may he allow it to happen?

I'm guessing they'd be just out of my spending range... Mind I keep seeing the odd wonderful bat and they're just going for 2-3m so I'd probably just wait for them anyway. Still seeing superbs going for up to 2m as well. Stupid transfer market.

CW BT XI was something like this a while ago:

1. Fitz Watkins - remarkable bat, strong bowl
2. Usmal Jayasuriya - superb bat
3. Sol Cuss - remarkable bat
4. Jason Duggan - quality bat
5. Shaka Herbert - superb bat
6. Grady Mccammon - remarkable bat
7.(wk) Marvin Gray/David Armstrong
8. Dwight Tuck - superb bowl
9. Ricky Louis - remarkable bowl
10. Swagat Moodley - quality bowl (maybe remarkable)
11. Jason Lovegrove - wonderful bowl

I still reckon Armstrong has the edge on Gray - will definitely have the edge at the end of the season.

That's just a list I posted a while ago, I assume SP copy/pasted it from then. Obviously they've improved since then, Watkins is now wonderful bat/superb bowl, Cuss is wonderful and most of the others have probably popped as well.

@trev: I'm studying Arts/Law (my arts major being political science - yay). The number of class/lecture hours per week is ridiculously low, typically around 15 hours, so I don't really do much at the moment.

I might just list him for something over 2m and see if anyone bids. At the moment the difference in price between say a strong and a quality on the transfer market is about the same as (maybe more than) the difference between a quality and a wonderful. Saw a 19yo exceptional go for a bit over 3m the other day, so there are definitely bargains at the top end of the market, but anyone proficient-quality tends to go for more than they should.

Hmm, have to look elsewhere for an economist then. Can top both of you in terms of lecture hours though. In the final year of my degree, my entire week consisted of 1pm/4pm Mondays and 1pm/5pm Tuesdays, upon the stroke of which my weekend officially began!

Do you think Alan would go for letting us take someone on as a CW XI? How much work do you reckon that would entail for him? And is Cuss no longer part of the Windies squad?

Greening didn't sell, wondering whether to relist him at the same price or give up. I don't want/can't really sell him for any less, so I'm just praying on people's stupidity really. But as I said the other day, if you're that stupid then you probably don't get to have £2m in the first place, so I don't know if I'm just wasting my time.

Tar to Scaly for posting the link to the RL cricket thread, what other threads do you guys go on? I guess the best way would be to have a read of them, but there's so many! Oh, and one final question, who was Bob? And Fardin? Defence and spin sounds as though he was a man after my own heart!

Bob is probably the forum's most loved member. He was an Afghani from USA, whose English wasn't that good and gave us with some memorable quotes. He talked about playing ODIs for USA-U15s and the like. He sadly passed away earlier this year. Bob was a nickname, given a long time ago, his real name was Fardin (forum name cricket_player_
