Gibbs
Kallis

Cronje(c)/Faf(c)
Miller
Klusenar
S Pollock
Steyn
Tahir
Donald

Looks perfect. Captain is the last man getting in that team though.

Gibbs is there for his big match performance. Miller also for his World Cup knockouts performance.

Of all these names, only debatable omission is Amla who has superb bilateral stats but I would prefer Gibbs type player here.

Kallis at 3 can be the rock to anchor one end in this team which has strokemakers all the way through.
I'd put Fannie DV, M Morkel, and Ntini ahead of Steyn.

Yeah I'd probably going with Fanie. I'm gonna toss Andrew Hall in the mix - very underrated ODI bowler.
One of the most versatile players ever too. A strong player for an everyday side to have, especially in a tournament where you're almost certain to pick up an injury that could throw the balance completely off.

I forgot him. Justin Kemp too was a good all rounder.

I remember his innings against India where SA was in real trouble with many wickets down. He got them to a very good score from nowhere.

SA really did have a good team between 2003-2007.

Kallis is a joke in any kind of ATG ODI team. He was lucky to make their team at all. Lost games off his own bat by scoring too slowly.

This is the XI I will go with. Just Fanie replacing Morne as I rate him higher.

This is my updated XI, took de Kock as Wicket keeper as he is more experienced than de Villiers.

So miss reverse swing in 50-over cricket. He was excellent at it.
Yeah death bowling is purely defensive these days. Back then you could actually attack by bowling reverse hooping yorkers with a ball discloured to the point where batsman could barely see it half the time. It was so fun, and Hall was a specialist at it.

Who was better Fanie or Hall as the 3rd Bowler for South Africa 🇿🇦
