Any excuse to bring this up again:

Fun Rubel stats

- Averages 249 against India
- Yet to take a wicket against Pakistan after 47 overs
- His best figures of 5/166 came against NZ at an economy of nearly 6
- If you take out Zimbabwe he has 22 wickets in 26 Tests @ 101
- Averages 316 at a strike rate of 498 in drawn matches
That day shall never come.

And Steve Smith was ducking him until he retired.

Surprised not to see Danny duck Morrison on this list.
fwiw the duck stat is actually led by these guys (min 30 innings)

Mervyn Dillon 38.24%
Mohammad Asif 36.84%
Dilip Doshi 36.84%

Morrison is ranked 8th, below other Kiwi greats Bob Blair and Chris Martin. 4 current players all make the top 11, including Jasprit Bumrah, Lahiru Kumara, Vishwa Fernando and Ebadot Hossain.

78.. 2nd fastest scorer among openers in the history. And Sachin was 94 🙏
By the end of their careers Sanath had a higher SR though

Sachin was incredible but comparing him to Sanath who didn't really succeed as the explosive opener he was known for until after 1995 is a bit of a cop out

I was talking about Sachin vs Rest. Not Sachin Vs Sanath.

If 90s Sachin was playing in a strong batting line up, he would have been more aggressive.

Yeah I get it, but you used Sachin's stats v Sanath's to demonstrate the point which doesn't really make sense since that was before the latter started making a name for himself in the position

Sobers vs India
Bat avg 83.48
Ball avg 25.69
Wow. Poor old India first had Sobers then Botham to give nightmares 😆.

Sobers stats better, but I'm not sure which was a better allround performance though? Sobers had a lot of not outs and same wkts in 11 more bowling innings and only 1 5fer to Botham's 6? Happy to call it a tie 😀

Sobers - 18 Tests
Bat: 30 Inn, 7 no, 1920 runs @ 83.47, HS 198, 8 100s, 7 50s
Bowl: 34 inn, 59 wkts @ 25.69, BB 5-63, 1 5fer

Botham - 14 Tests
Bat: 17 Inn, 0 no, 1201 runs @ 70.64, HS 208*, 5 100s, 5 50s
Bowl: 23 Inn, 59 wkts @ 26.40, BB 7-48, 1 10fer, 6 5fers

Obviously over rates are slower nowadays. Still tons in a session occur at a similarish rate I believe, since players generally score faster now.

Most tons in a single session

Bradman 6
Trumper 3
Hammond 3
Sehwag 3

Others who have done it twice include McCabe, Weekes, Walters, Hayden, de Villiers, Warner, Dhawan and Stokes.

Bradman, Hammond, Hayden all scored 100 runs in two seperate sessions in their famous triples.

Phil Mead and Jack Russell (legal first names both coincidentally Charles) both scored centuries in a session in the same test, Mead in one innings and Russell in the other. Of course its well known Hayden and Gilly both scored 100’s in the same session. What’s probably not as well known is that Chris Gayle and Dwayne Smith both scored tons in a session against South Africa months later, Gayle in the first innings and Smith in the second.

So far we haven’t seen two batsmen on opposite teams score tons in a session in the same test.
