Absurdly Awesome Cricket Stats

AndrewB

International Vice-Captain
It's pretty absurd that these 3 West Indian fast bowlers ended their careers with such awesome averages so close to each other

Marshall - 20.94
Garner - 20.97
Ambrose - 20.99
If you list all Test cricketers by their bowling average, the three of them appear consecutively: no-one else has a Test bowling average of 20.9x .

Also consecutive are Waqar Younis (23.56) and Wasim Akram (23.62). And, temporarily, England's batting all-rounder captains Tony Greig (32.20) and Ben Stokes (32.21).

Boycott (perhaps unsurprisingly) holds the test record for highest innings without a boundary. Scored 77 (did have a single four which was all run)

Pakistan have 5. Nice job excluding South Africa which has 11. Does help that he himself has played 5+ more matches in Australia than any team apart from England.
Someone posted on Twitter. Knew the stats was too good to be true

Provide his average against them too. I bet that's gonna be even more absurd.

Only 3 batsmen in history have scored a century every 5 innings or less

1. Don Bradman - century every 2.8 innings
2. George Headley - every 4.0 innings
3. Clyde Walcott - every 4.9 innings

Harry Brook has just moved into 4th with a century every 5.1 innings

Marco Jansen now qualifies for a SR ranking on cricinfo after bowling minimum 2000 balls in his test career.

This now means that 5 of the current top 8 bowlers with the greatest career strike rates in test cricket played Test cricket in 2024 :

Marco Jansen (2nd) , Kuldeep Yadav (3rd),
Kagiso Rabada (5th), Duanne Olivier (7th), Jayden Seales (8th).

No.1 is George Lohmann who played Test cricket in the 1800's.
