A-League Thread

Queensland should have won their game.

Absolute cracker between Adelaide and Sydney though. Kazu scored 2, Rech scored 2 and Veart scored one. Qu, Rech, Yorke and Kazu were all excellent though. Just an end to end game that ended 3-2 to Adelaide but could so easily have been about 6-5. I think the better team won though, but congrats to Sydney for an excellent fightback after being down 2-0.

Nope still on three points.

I just read Queensland Roar signed some Brazilian Forward Reinaldo Elias da Costa, i wonder if he can solve QLD goal scoring problem. He looks on paper as someone who didn't get signed just cus his Brazilian. He got signed by Feyenoord, but like Brosque i don't think he played much and played for Corinthians. Also his only 21, so his not here for a retirement home. On paper a good signing, i wonder if he will produce on the field. BTW does anyone know what his goal scoring record was in Brazil.

Or wait you guys are talking about tonights game, forgot all about it.QLD 1 and NZ 1, it doesn't look right, anyway well done to NZ, i knew they would start becoming competitive soon. QLD know really need Reinaldo to fire or they may fall of the pace.

To be fair to the Knights they have performed well but have not taken advantage of their shots at goal. For a team at the bottom of the ladder, it would be expected that they did not paly well all season and should have more thrashings dealt to them.

Thats what happens when you sign crap strikers like Sean Devine and Simon Yeo. Also i think QLD are the side that don't take advantage of there shots on goal, 27 shots on goal this game and 16 on target and only one went past the keeper. Compare that to NZ who had 7 shots on goal. The reason so far that NZ haven't has more thrashings is cus they have on of the best keeper in the A-League in Danny Milosevic.

As far as I'm concerned we're off the pace. We REALLY needed a win there. If only we could send more past the keeper! :@

So Andy do you know much about the background of your new strikers, his goal scoring record in Brazil. I don't think you guys are that far of the pace, considering you only a game or two away from 4th spot.

Just thought I'd revive this thread with some interesting quotes :D

But players like Muscat, Thompson, Milicic, Brosque, Zelic and Colosimo are the sort of players the league would rather attract. Former Socceroos, current Socceroos and fringe Socceroos. Plus there are alot of good young players.

And without exception rubbish.

Those players you listed aren't even good enough for Championship standard though.

PSV set to poach Archie
SBS

Melbourne Victory star striker, Archie Thompson, could be joining Socceroos coach Guus Hiddink at Dutch club PSV Eindhoven.

The international transfer window opens on January 1 and Thompson, like several local based players, is looking for a move to help boost his chances of making Australia's 2006 World Cup squad.

Thompson's manager confirmed to Toyota World Sport that negotiations are taking place. His personal terms have been tabled and now the ball is in PSV's court.

The deal would see Thompson join the Eredivisie champion - which also has Australian midfielder Jason Culina on its books - on loan during the January transfer window, with a view to a permanent move at the end of the European season.

And I stand by those comments.
I didn't realise there were that many teams capable of making it to the last 16 of the champions league, let alone qualifying for it or winning the Dutch Eredivisie! The standard of English football never ceases to amaze me!

Out of interest, how do you guys rate Sydney's performances at the Club World Championships?

marc71178

Eyes not spreadsheets
The Club World Championships are a nothing tournament.

The fact that Dwight Yorke is the biggest player in the league says exactly where it stands amongst other leagues - nowhere near as good.

So you're all going to tell me there's thousands of World Class players out there then are you?

Because you'd be lying if you tried.

Marc's right, the standard of the A-League isn't that great. The number of sitters missed and mistakes made in defence is shocking. However, there are some very good players in the league, just not a great deal of them.
