But not all those 200 countries speak English. Of the English as first language speaking coutries, Britain calls it football, USA calls it soccer. What do Canada, NZ, etc call it?
Ireland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Scotland, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Windies countries etc all call it Football too and they speak English don't they?

Canada, NZ, Japan, Australia and USA are only countries ATM that don't regularly call it football.

There are more English speaking countries that call it football then the ones that don't...

Muscat has played for Rangers, Crystal Palace, Wolverhampton and Millwall

Zelic has played for Borussia Dortmund, 1860 Munich, Eintracht Frankfurt, Auxerre, Queens Park Rangers, FC Tirol and Urawa Reds

Milicic has played for NAC Breda, Rijeka and Pahang

Colosimo has played for Man Citeh, Racing Genk and Antwerp

Archie Thompson has played for Standard Lierse (He was basically their best player for a long time)

Brosque's played for Westerlo and Feyenoord
Which was basically what I said!

Australia doesn't have the calibre of players that England has. Does that mean we're all rubbish? Clearly you're trying to be as negative as you possibly can towards Australian football.
Hmmmm...that sounds vaguely familiar. Wherever could have I heard that before?....
....Oh. Wait. Yes. It's what the Australians say about Super League and British rugby league in general.

What's the matter, Aussies? Dish it out but you can't take it? Maybe it's just your hypocritical points of view.

The difference is that most Australians understand that the A-League isn't as good as the the EPL, unlike some English people and their belief that the Super League is as strong as the NRL.

I don't think I know an Englishman who actually follows rugby league and doubts that the NRL is the better league, but there are Aussies who say most of the GB squad would struggle to play 2nd grade in Australia, which is complete and utter ********. How is Marc saying that those Aussie players aren't even Championship standard any different to that?

Cus some of them have played Championship (or Divison One) and others have gone straight from the NSL (comp before the A-League) straight into Championship sides. There are a couple players from the GB side, that are trying their luck in the NRL and if they are up to the standard, then people will change their minds.

How many of them play Aussie Rules, Rugby League and Rugby Union, all of which are referred to as football at some stage or another, particularly ahead of soccer.

I don't care what they call it, I just find it a silly marketting move.

My mates and I have started calling it association (as in association football of course). It means we don't get confused with the other football codes. This trend will take off I tell you :p
Way to think outside the box, Burpey. That's only been in use since before both world wars 8-)

Ireland play all three, Scotland and Wales play both League and Union. South Africa play Union and still play League at some levels. And yes it is a marketing tool, that is working.

Since when to Ireland play AFL? They play Gaelic, which is completely different.

The marketting tool isn't working, cause let's be honest, only wogs and ex-pat Poms call it football.

Hey just thought I'd add my two bob here as my job in Brisbane puts me in pretty close relations with most of the boys from the Roar. I've been to the majority of their games and I have to say the A-League has been a hit so far. People can say what they want about crappy old overseas players, and that's true, but finally we have a competition which is professional, organised and getting promotion in the media and airtime.
The players love it, the fans are getting right behind it and last night's WC qualification will certainly help it out no end.
Now is not the time to knock this competition, not for the soccer (sorry, football) community in Australia coz this is the last chance to make it work over here. Going well so far and it's a million times better than the NSL which probably wasn't even conference standard in relation to English stuff...

Yes.

wog n. Chiefly British Offensive Slang

Used as a disparaging term for a person of color, especially a person from northern Africa or western or southern Asia.
