So you're all going to tell me there's thousands of World Class players out there then are you?

Because you'd be lying if you tried.
I'm not saying that at all.

All I'm saying is that how can you comment on something you have never seen?

So what if there isn't the best players in the world, it is not as though the clubs can afford them, and in the world where money talks, where else are they going to stay?

And besides you can't not say the League isn't working, because the media coverage is 10 times better then that of the old NSL. Proper marketing, games live on cable TV, and more importantly good crowds for some teams. I can say the Roar get crowds better then some of those in League 1 and 2 over in England.

Can you stop being so negative and knock everything about a country you (AKAIK) you haven't been too? Or is your ego in the way?

For a start I have been there, and have a lot of family over there, who I am in very regular contact (as in daily) with.

Ok.. where is the rest?
Blaze, I'm counting on those Kiwis of yours to get over the line today against the Mariners!

They better do it! :@

Great 2-0 win to the Roar last night :D

Dwight Yorke wasn't signed for his football ability I wouldn't have thought and would have been signed for the same reasons Jonah Lomu was signed by Cardiff. Sign a big name everyone knows so it gets more people through the gates! For the recent Sydney FC v Knights game in Auckland, they got their biggest crowd of the season thus far as everyone obviously wanted to see him play. The same is happening with Lomu over in the UK at the moment I believe?

A fair few Aussie and Kiwi players seem to be making it in the big leagues overseas so it can't be all bad down under. Kiwi players - Simon Elliott was just signed by Fulham, and Nelson seems to be going really well with Blackburn. There's far more Aussie players over there of course.

Elliot had a shocker on debut.

Like you said there are a few good young players coming through. A close mate of mine got a trial with Blackburn a few months back and he is going back sometime this year for another trial. He is currently playing for team wellington in the NZFC and is only 18 so he will probably crack the big time at some stage.

The knights are a disgrace. We need young kiwi talent in there, not old washed up englishmen.

There's a generally positive article on the A-League in today's Observer:

http://observer.guardian.co.uk/sport/story/0,6903,1681817,00.html

I do like the song that fans are (allegedly) taunting Dwight Yorke with (to the tune of "New York, New York"):

'Start spreading the news.
He's nobody today.
He's just a washed up has been:
Dwight Yorke, Dwight Yorke...'
:D
It's great to be reading stuff like that! Interestingly they didn't mention Sydney coming 5th at the recent CWC though.

Anyway cheers for that article Brumby!

I must say though, Christie has impressed me ALL season. Even when the Knights were playing poorly, he was there as solid as ever.

Bright, Brockey and Caravella also look good. Not sure if Caravella is a kiwi though.

I trust he has an English or similar passport?

Probably because it was a meaningless competition and coming 5th was irrelevant since it meant all they did was beat 1 team.

It's only right & proper. You give us Mehrtens & Spencer, so we give you Neil Emblen & Sean Devine.

Fair exchange, no robbery! :p

No worries.

BTW, why did Sydney play in it? Last time I looked Adelaide were waltzing the A-League.

Becuase we had to decide who was to play in the Oeanian Club Championships before the season started. Sydney won the pre-season comp so they got to play in it.

They outplayed Deportivo Saprissa as well though.

Yeah... he was born in England so I guess. Why does it matter?
Our FA rules, unless he's played 75% of full NZ internationals over the last 2 years he wouldn't get a work permit. If he's got a UK or EU passport he can play regardless.
