A finance idea that will take WCC to a whole new level!

Now we all know that since betting has been disbanded, there has been no involvement of finance in WCC at all.And I strongly resent this.WCC is about club cricket and finances are integral to club cricket.

I'm not saying we bring back betting, because that was finance in the manager level.I am saying we bring in finance in the club level!

How you ask? This is how : Sponsors.

We can decide on a set amount of sponsors, maybe 45-50 total sponsors. Each team has 4 sponsors,a major one and 3 minor ones. Also, the Division One teams will have sponsors that pay better than companies who sponsor Division 5.They pay you weekly, and this money is used to pay the wages of players Each club starts of with a set amount of finances, and if the amount of wages the team has to pay exceeds the amount that the sponsors pay them, the team starts losing money.

The advantages of this finance system are :

1. This helps balance out the talent pool.No longer will we see Division 4 teams having 5-6 international stars because naturally, international stars ask for more money.A Division 5 team will have to build their squad around one mainstay while a Division 1 team will be capable of hiring virtually a whole squad of stars.

2.This will really make promotion a real challenge and not a piece of cake like it now is.Win the league, your up and you are ready to compete with the big boys. With this system,we have scenarios where team will have to struggle with promotion/relegation really making a dog fight like it is IRL.

3. Teams will actually have to worry about their survival now. This will really bring out the managers who are in hiding currently. The interaction will increase by a huge amount which is only good for WCC!

The disadvantages are :

There is only one. That of implementation.I volunteer myself to take charge of this and I also think that Aditya being ex-head of betting will be interested in this one.I will communicate ASAP with Blewy and let you guys know.

Well what do you think of this?Good?Bad? Rate this idea people! And feel free to ask questions!

Wont this just make all our hard work of trying to even the teams up a complete waste of time?

Well if you wanted to even up the teams, why create such divisions?Might as well put them all in one division and watch them battle!

Divisions coupled with promotion and relegation HAS to mean division in talent IMO.

Plus, when a team gets promoted, their sponsors get upgraded and they can immediately afford better players. This will bring more realism to the promotion system.Fight to survive, then build up a strong position, then go for promotion. It is too unrealistic at the moment IMO,and shooting through the divisions is not off the cards right now. This will be the ultimate challenge that will keep managers interested, start at the bottom and work your way up,not just trade, draft, promotion!

I also understand that some of the top teams will resent letting go of some of their players. But lets face it,too many of the teams have a fantastic back-up.A first team of class is welcome,a couple of more good players in backup is acceptable, but a whole team of talent is not good for the game IMO!

That's got seriously close to frying my brain. ARRRRRRG!!! Too complicated! What I liked about the betting is that it was volentary and it didn't make the game too complicated. I didn't have to get involved if I didn't want to and...well...so I didn't.

I think it's a brilliant idea. just because u have to go a tiny bit outta ur way just to work out how much ur wage bill is no reason to say no. i think this is a brilliant idea. and IMO the division should be on talent rather than just when they began. also i agree with you about backup/talent. mumbai have a whole team of brilliant players. whereas i rely heavily on Shrinivas, Engineer, Chapman and Clarke/Highsmith depending on 1d/4d. if they were unable to keep all of their stars it would even things up alot more. it adds a new aspect of trading which means that if you are a smaller team u can get some pretty decent players. however if this was to pass(which i feel it should, but i'm sure most will say no. cause it's too much trouble for them to keep track of wages etc.:rolleyes: )i think un-even trading would have to be brought in as well.

As a manager i dont like it, but as a board member perhaps we will have a look at something like this.

great idea, though someone would have to basically work it all out, how much each player is worth in wages etc, than how much money in wages each team would have to pay and how much they would get in sponsorship. thats a HUGE job.

as for managers, apart from the ones that are creating the system i dont think that it would be that much trouble - especially not after the first squad cut back. this would also make trading more interesting - also players would have to increase and decrease in wages as they get better or worse - a thought on that, most players have multi year contracts so their wages only change every few years.

but as a whole i like the idea - also depending on when/if it were to come in i would be more than happy to help with anything involved

ive just read through it a couple more times to really get the jist of it properlly. my undertsanding is that the teams that are strong will always be strong, and the teams that are weak will always be weak. you say it will now be a challenge for teams to get promotion from lower divisions. But how easy will it be for teams to win in higher divisions. If all the good players are there it makes the Vb cup no fun cause division 1 teams will do it in a canter, the all star series will be pointless too.
this idea simply wont work. too many mangers dont show enough interest in the game for starters. And not everyone trades.
if you look back over the last couple of seasons, a lot of managers have chosen not to trade at all and make do with what they have and draft picks.
Im not convinced this can work. and until i am i wont be supporting it.

I like the idea to an extent. Salaries etc. are the next thing WCC needs to go to the next level.
But as broncoman said the rich will get better and the poor worse. Perhaps if every team had the same amount of money!

a salary cap i dont think would work, i would support it above the current system, but i think it could be taken farther, some reward for sucess, it doesn't have to be much, maybe only about 5% between devisions in sponsorship and a little extra for the VB cup winners and runners up.

also, as a punshment for incorrect submission they could get fined for the next season or something like that

also, teams from far away countries coule get concessions for a while as to build up their sides - like Sydney and Brisbane in the AFL (eg Free state, jamaica and Mashonaland etc)

I like the idea very much. And i am ready to help in deciding players wages. But the only problem with this is that as everyone said better teams will become more better and worse more worse. Can anyone suggest a way by which this can be implemented and also there is no disadvantage.I am thinking on the solution and if i get one i will post.

also, it could be made to advantage those who are active, eg you get a bonus at the end of the season for reports written every week etc

ohh and ofcourse fines would be possible

I like the idea alot but IMO it does need some modifications.

Having said that I think if we all put our heads together we coulkd come up with a great system.

IMO the division are alreday showing trues signs of the best at the top and the weaklings at the bottom. The only exception is in four day. Divisions 1 and 2 are true, but division 3 and 4 are probably in the wrong order. The one day divisions generally get weaker the lower down you look.

I like the idea of paying salaries. However who decides if a good player wants to play in the top league? Maybe he is loyal to his club and wont leave for any fee or anything. This idea, of top players playing in the top league is gay. It gives the lower teams no hope, and after a while the top sides would get bored for show

IMO WCC is a multi-billion dollar business like the NBA or Major League Baseball with all the clubs bringing in ****loads of money. So finance isn't a worry. Keeping the good players shouldn't be a worry.

if you had reat it properly you would know that if a team got promoted they would instantly recieve as much money in that div as every1 else.

No better teams will not become better. They will keep their best 13 players or so and will have to release the pretty good last 3 players in order to keep in-budget.Also,the decision of wages of players wont be made on talent alone, but also on experience. So in practice,a Division 5 team would be able to keep an inexperienced rookie with an average of possible 50-60 because he is inexperienced and wont cost much. Also, inexperienced international stars will also cost lesser than those experienced so lower divisions will have talented players!

Although a good idea on the face of it, I fear it would overcomplicate the game too much and also would be an absolute nightmare to administer.

Also, who would decide these wages - it can't just be one person.

The idea of automatically upping sponsorship when a team gets promotion doesn't sit well IMO - it would end up with the same players in the top division each season on different teams.

One of WCC's major plus points is how simple it is IMO.

Fines sounds really good.
so you could be fined for not submitting your team, submitting an injured player etc.

Marc got it spot on there, WCC's great plus is its simplicity. A lot of people just chose to post their teams and thats all. idealy we would like people to do more, but some people dont take the game as seriously and others dont have as much time. This game lets these people take part.
