Apologies for storming the Aussie party, but I saw a rerun of the Freemantle v Melbourne game last night.. I've never taken AFL seriously, but it looked like good fun and I'll probably start following it once I learn about the game..

A question though, what purpose does the small area between the goal serve?

And if I was to follow a team, who are the front runners?

Ablett is vastly overrated, he has his little spurts of brilliance and people think he's a star for that. I'd put $100 on Chapman getting more votes than him.

That small area between the goal posts is called a 'goal square'

Serves little purpose, other than when the ball is being kicked back by the defender after a point is scored, they can't leave that area.

Also when someone marks (catches) the ball in that square they get lined up directly in front, opposed to on an angle.

Only got over 15 possies in half his games. Sure breaking the game apart nearly every week.

Do you even know where he plays? He's a small forward. More than 15 possessions in half of your games is an excellent return for someone who plays in that position.
