Not now that they've ordered the bookies to pay out on a draw they won't.
I saw on the news last night that both Stk and Freo are going to present their cases to the AFL commission, and then it will make a ruling. At this point in time it looks highly likley that Freo will get the 4 pts.

I hope not. They need to stick by their own rule book, and surely if Freo can claim the 4 points for an 'atrocious' umpiring mistake, than the Dees can claim the game v Adelaide as a draw as well. The AFL need to show some faith in the umpires and let the draw stand.

The bookies actions does not determine AFL policy. I have never placed a bet on football but dont the betting agencies want a draw because they get everyones money? Like in roulette when it goes on 0. So obvioulsy the betting agencies would want to call a draw. Is this how it works.

Agreed. However unfair the decision may be, the umpires ruling should stand.

Let's be fair dinkum here, Freo won the game, they should get the points.
Yeah I dont care about the institution of umpires, at final time Freo had won, end of story. The integrity of the game and rules is a non factor here in my opinion. Its pretty clear who won and I am suprised that StK havent offered them to Freo. That suprises me the the most. I was barracking for the saints and was annoyed the Victorian team didn't win, but still they didnt win. If they don't get the points it will be the unfairest thing I have ever seen in footy.

If you were St Kilda would you really hand the points over? As a St Kilda fan I would be outraged if they did that. There is no way you would just give up 2 points like that.

Im suprised afl.com.au are covering this, they usually stay away from anything that can embaress the AFL.

Also, did anyone watch Media Watch last night? They had this intersting segment on The Age and The Herald Sun and their sponsorship between the MCG, TD and Carlton affecting their editorials and reporting. I usually hate Media Watch but that was good stuff. Board room bickering, fights all the good things.

I think Freo should get the points, but I don't think they will. It's a lot easier for the AFL to rule in St. Kilda's favour because, ATM, the ball is in Freo's court to show why it should be changed. Also, the ramifications legally will be a lot bigger for the AFL (IMO, and listening to SEN today that was the impression I got too) if they overturn the result, rather than leaving it as a draw.

Alot of people are talking about the betting side of thing, and agencies paying out and stuff. A thing like this (sort of) happened in the NRL, where West Tigers (I think) won the game, but were later made to forfeit the points because they had used the interchange excessively, the agency paid out the win to the tigers and nothing more... Burpey can fill in the details if he knows what im talking about.

On the radio, the guys from the better agencies said their policy is that the result is when the players and umpires walk off the ground, any subsequent result is ignored. So really, the betting side of things shouldn't have anything to do with what the AFL do.

I remember the Cowboys once had 14 players on the field at one stage and won the match. What happened was the Cowboys were stripped of their two points, but their opponents got zero points as well.

But the betting agencies did pay out the win for the Cowboys, and it even went down as a win on the premiership table (with 2 points deducted)

It doesn't matter what the betting agencies are doing, hell one betting agency has decided to pay out both a draw and a Fremantle win because they want to 'do the right thing', despite the fact they are losing a crap load of money by doing it.

The AFL isn't going to decide what to do based on the fact that the betting agencies have already paid out a draw, nor is the fact that the draw is being paid a signal that a draw will stand, its a seperate issue all together.

A little part in me wishes Baker kicked that goal, because the controversy we are all witnessing now would have been ten fold, and would have been fun.

Can't help but feel for Freo and Connolly. I think St Kilda will get to keep the 2 points, but as Gerard Healy said on On The Couch last night, the fact that the case has gone to the Commission means that Freo's case is being taken very seriously. The AFL Operations could have just gone 'Nah, when the umpire signals its over, its over", but they haven't. Its not totally out of the question that Freo will get the 4 points.

Whatecer the outcome, both teams are going to have horrible preperation this week with all the distractions. As a result, both teams will lose on the weekend.
