Great game tonight, come to think of it, it has been a very exciting week of footy. I am a big Carlton supporter myself, try and get to every game and put on a brave face but its getting really, really hard. I dont know how much more cellar dwelling I can take, we are a proud club with a great history but whats the point in investing effort and tears into a side that realistically will not make the finals in the next 5 years.
I went on Friday night, with no less than 3 Hawks supporters and 2 "know nothing about footy, but will go for the team that's winning" tagalongs. It was tough, but there were some good signs (hey, if we'd kicked straight, who knows?). Andrew Walker is finally looking like a #2 draft pick, Whitnall is finding his touch again and de Luca actually played pretty well. Can't stand Heath Scotland though, would he get the prize for the most meaningless 30+ disposal games ever?

This year is shaping up to be a good draft, and we're shaping up to be the wooden spooners, and whilst it is a slow process, we're rebuilding. Our defence is a joke (how Teague ever won B&F I don't know? And when your key defenders are Thornton and Livingston, you know you're in trouble), but otherwise we're getting there.

Am i the only one here who has no idea how Ben Johnson won the Anzac Medal?
He didn't... Craig Johnson did.

Haha nah he played all right, 30 possessions, did some classy things, needs to learn how to not look like a ****** kicking though.

Teague's a gun, not for his skills or anything, but for his courage. Definately in the Glenn Archer mould, which is why Dennis is a bit of a fan, but I was a bit suprised when he won the b&f myself.

He's from my neck of the woods, played in the Ovens & Murray for Corowa/Rutherglen. I think he is a part of the bigger picture for carlton, will definately be important when he has bigger bodies helping him out.

Another thing on Carlton's defence, they need to figure out what Whitnall is going to be, a key forward or backman. Although he looks more potent up forward, i wouldn't mind seeing Digby Morrel play key forward, and moving Lance up back. By all reports, Digby is flying for Northern Bullants in the VFL and when he played for the roos, I saw him and thought he could do some Careyesque things, his best footy hasn't been played yet in my opinion.

Wouldn't you love to have the big Gorilla, Nathan Lovett-Murray in your Dream Team and Super Coach!!! Played an awesome game. I don't know why that idiot Andrew Lovett gets all the attention (other than being a show boat and sending SMSes to his ex-gf about how he could get away with murder) because Lovett-Murray is clearly the superior player, more consistent and more honest.

Ben Johnson deserved the Anzac Medal, he was running off half-back like it was nothing. Played a very good game.

And how funny was that doofus Kepler Bradley thinking he scored a goal after the 3 qtr time siren, but he missed. His reaction was priceless.

Good win by the Pies, Hird tried to lift his team like he always does on Anzac Day but this time the team just wasn't good enough.

Well Lance having a ripper up forward against Hawthorn has created a dilemma for Carlton next week against Richmond

They'd normally put Lance on Richo, and with Fev (and Waite?) coming back, they may just do that, but at the same time he can be very damaging as a forward. If I was a Carlton fan I'd want him up back when Fev and Waite are in the team, because he's got one of the best footy brains in the business (along with Wirrpunda) and can read the play, run off his opponent and be very creative from half-back. Whether he can run with Richo will be interesting though, because last time Carlton played Richmond and won, Brown was obviously injured for the season, Staff wasn't fit so didn't play and Richo got concussed in the 1st quarter. This resulted in Richmond having one of the worst forward lines ever whereby the crapness of Rory Hilton was our target. Lance owned him.

Don't live in Albury any more, used to be both.
Just wondering, does anyone here follow any footy leagues outside of the AFL? I know Borcich follows the WAFL and cameeel obviously follows Tallangatta & District, anyone else?

Hilarious.

But yeah, on Digby Morrell, he's a good player, but I don't think he's good enough. It's all good and well that he's flying high for the Bullants, but does anyone remember Setanta o'hAilpin dominating in the VFL last year? He had a shocker on Friday night, looked totally out of place. Though I'm certainly not saying he won't develop into a better player, but Digby's form in the VFL is of little significance IMO - he played 11 games last year, didn't really impress. He's okay - but I don't rate him that highly.

We've got some good younger players who are developing really quickly (Waite being one of them, who will become one of the leading CHFs in the comp IMO). We still suck and anything higher than 16th would be a massive effort, but at least there's an end in sight, however far away it is.

Errr... but Digby has played well at AFL level, maybe not last year, but years before. You can't say that success in the 2nd highest competition in the world is of little significance. Dennis needs to learn how to play him, he's head and shoulders above the VFL level in terms of class, my mate who plays for the bullants seconds reckons he's a freak.

LOL Digby. I have nothing against him, but my mates and I always make fun of him when we used to play AFL 2004 on PS2.

Big Digby Morell kicked a few goals against Richmond last year, but I'm not sure if he's needed when you have players the quality of Fevola, Waite and Fisher who can play up forward for Carlton. They may as well keep grooming their youth. Don't they have Josh Kennedy, their first round draft pick, coming in to the team soon as well? He plays forward.

How am I supposed to know what they are? Incase you haven't noticed, AFL isn't exactly popular up here, so all I know comes from this thread.
By the way I was meant to ask this a while ago, out of interest Steds how did you get into AFL?

And how are you kicking butt in Dream Team? :p

I have no doubt those players mentioned are the future of the club, but Digby is a proven performer who smashes them in the VFL and should be given a shot in order to free up Whitnall.

As soon as I started adding Aussies to my msn they started trying to convert me (Linda and Faaip, mainly).

And I'm a fast learner. ;)
