Have a feeling Morgan is one of the few batsmen around equipped to score well against Vettori, and not just because he's a left-hander.

I think Cook may have not been perfectly suited to pre-two new ball ODIs where the strategy for all teams was to pile on the runs in the first 20, keep them in hand and launch in the death.

Now teams have to be a little more cautious at the start of the innings. I don't think a second new ball would slow Cook down at all if he could find form.
I looked at the stats before the squad was announced and he scored at about five and a half an over when he got a score since the last world cup, and only bout 2/4 runs per 100 ball worse than the likes of KP overall, even compensating for poor form. But the theory of keeping wickets in hand didn't work because he kept getting out early or after a start. No ODI fifties and no test centuries in 18 months cost him.

Cook's a weird case because when he was playing well he was a better ODI player than any of the current top 3. But his form in all cricket has just been so awful for 18 months. A lot of people made it out to be him not being suited to modern ODI's, but that was never the issue.
Those people making out that Cook isn't suited to the modern ODI are as out of step with the current ODI as Moores appears to be. I know Cook was out of form, but his run of scores pre-world cup wasn't really that atrocious that he deserved to be shown as the key element holding England back from achieving their potential. England still have a line up to pile on the runs in the last twenty - but there's a lot of reliance on Morgan and Buttler hitting the 150ish strike rate required. Root has been excellent lately, but he's more of a 100-120 strike rate player in those circumstances. Stick Bell in the middle order instead of Ballance and I think it adds a lot more scoring potential to the line up.

Yeah the type of player Cook is and his suitability to the format wasn't the issue; the issue was the fact that he was batting with a needle.

haha i thought that top edge was going for six for a bit. would have been another chance for the modern bats rant.

Do these colourful graphics that claim to attribute Milne and Woakes' pace to different parts of their actions have any scientific basis?

WTF was that graph they just showed on the screen? Milne vs Woakes pace graph. Bizarre the way they're putting these lame stats up on the screen.
