4th Test at the Gabba, Brisbane, 15 - 19 Jan 2021

Wow if this is what Spark calls a wicket taking strategy he needs his head examined for leaking because it's garbage and against Sun Tzu.

It's like if I say I want kids and i go about it by having *** with farm animals.
Well, if you use goats...

Because you can get a batsman out with bouncers, especially lower order batsmen. It screws up their footwork and they often don't get in line with the ball, meaning that ordinary short of the length balls that would easily be defended get nicked to the slips.

This has been standard SOP to the tail for like six or seven years. It's not something that they just invented to injure the Indian tail.
Shouldn't be plan A at expense of simply bowling at the stumps tho.

Clearly the plan is to intimidate, rough up and potentially hurt Natarajan, all whilst softening up his footwork for the full ball. It's fine. Some people think it's distasteful but if Nattu can't see this out safely he shouldn't be there batting. Blame the Indian camp for exposing him to the risk of getting injured.

As I type I see Nattu keeps out the full ball. Good stuff.

But also you've deliberately misinterpreted what Harsh said to be needlessly combative
In hindsight, probably. But I think "he's just trying to injure him, not get him out" would be a pretty **** **** thing to do and thus it's a pretty serious accusation to make. You want to have a bit to back it up if so.

Pretty funny listening to Waugh and Lee on comms here, with Lee saying they’re doing a good job softening up the batsman and Waugh making the not unreasonable point you don’t really need to soften up a bloke who averages two
No ****. I'd be pissed at this bowling if it was my team.

Yeah but the problem is that lower order batsmen these days are generally at least defensively competent enough technically to keep out normal full balls, but it's the short ball that exposes the lack of talent/experience against high quality bowling. That's been the experience anyway.

Where I think they get it wrong is that they forget that the short ball makes the yorker a much more dangerous delivery.

Heh, sums the mentality of how Lee often bowled to tailenders. Seemed to be salivating at prospect of a broken foot at end of over there.

The problem with our short ball tactic to the tail is it ends up being the stock ball instead of the surprise. By all means bounce the tail, but throw a few good balls on a length in as well.

And as I type, hurrah!

By they way, who here said Siraj couldn't bat? This is almost as good as Murali.

As I type he actually gets one on the bloody stumps.
