I dont think you really understand the review system. Having no review lefts is a big risk.
Especialyl when it's Joel ****ing Wilson and anyone who has ever played a game of cricket could have told him that it was pitching outside leg stump on one viewing

Lol these takes are terrible. It doesn’t matter if you burn a review, if it pitches middle and leg, straightens and is hitting middle half way up it’s out. It wasn’t even a close decision. How that’s Paine’s fault I don’t ****ing know. The umpire doesn’t abrogate his responsibility to get something that basic right just because you **** up a review. The world has these things arse about
Looked out live for sure. But that's the whole point of reviews - to fix the clangers. Not throw around willy-nilly for the sake of it like they did a few balls earlier.

The umpire made a terrible decision, but Aus should have still had that review to fix it. Both the Umpire and Paine heavily at fault for different reasons.

Stokes a far better batsman than Freddie but not as good a bowler. If he puts another display on in one of the last two then yeah it'll probably top Freddie's 05. Insane innings that
Yeah the allround series comparisons aren't quite right. Stokes is having a near unbelievable series with the bat but has bowled unreliably.

So during that last partnership, Australia:

drop a catch
make a throw to the wrong end when there was a chance for a runout
fumbled the throw for an easy runout

harsh to blame Paine for those. any one of those mistakes goes right and Aus win.
also Australia do any of those three right and it wouldn't have come down to relying on Joel Wilson to make a correct LBW call to win the game.

I mean he's directly responsible for

> the tactics
> the reviews
> making runs

All of which he dismally, dismally failed at and it cost us a Test match that we should have won.
all this applies to the lords test too

The fact that the wicket wasn't given out was a huge blunder by the umpire - England would have reviewed if it was given anyway. I'm not sure how he was thinking it was not out.

Once again, umpiring blunders creating cricketing folklore.

And if ICC insist on playing umpires like Wilson and Dharmasena the reviews need to be increased, until they can find at least semi-competent umpires who aren't from England or Australia

I'm calling it now. Hawkeye for that lbw is bull****. That does not look right. Hawkeye has it swinging back after impact hitting middle and leg, no ****ing way was that hitting middle and leg.

I think the flick of the front pad changing trajectory messed with hawkeye there
Now that I've calmed down, I think I actually agree with this. Only saw the one replay though.

Yeah I'd like another look at it slowed down. Live it looked umpire's call.

honestly with the number of LBWs that have looked out live but shown to be bouncing over on hawkeye, or the number that look high but end up being umpires call, i'm starting to wonder how accurate the ball tracking actually is.

obv watching on TV is a terrible angle to judge LBWs from, but when you consistently see players and umpires get it wrong you have to wonder.

could just be humans are terrible at judging this stuff mind, which is probably the real answer.

Ben Stokes has had quite a summer with the bat!

This is why I said earlier that those criticising Stokes for chirping earlier when England were struggling to get Labu/Wade were reading it so wrongly. What did they expect him to do? Keep his head down and hands in the pockets and just give in? Talking on the field keeps you in the game and it wakes up your fielders as well. Creating a contest on the field can help the bowlers. The dude's a fierce competitor and cricket is better for it.
