Just quietly, I think stokes' monumental effort with the ball in the 2md innings deserves credit. Obviously his innings will overshadow everything but he dragged England back into the game almost singlehandedly even before that knock.

This is why it annoys me so much when someone says x has zero chance of winning. Well LT, you were wrong. Also TMO, do you still feel sorry for Stokes?

Stokes a far better batsman than Freddie but not as good a bowler. If he puts another display on in one of the last two then yeah it'll probably top Freddie's 05. Insane innings that

I mean he's directly responsible for

> the tactics
> the reviews
> making runs

All of which he dismally, dismally failed at and it cost us a Test match that we should have won.
This is absolutely horrendous except for the making runs bit.

Yeah been thinking about that all day tbh. You don't want to get all boomer pundit and say that some blokes just want it more, but it really does seem like Stokes simply wanted it much, much, much more than anyone else.

Big time. If we're 4 down at the end of the second day we set 400+ and it's probably too much even for Stokes.

Lol these takes are terrible. It doesn’t matter if you burn a review, if it pitches middle and leg, straightens and is hitting middle half way up it’s out. It wasn’t even a close decision. How that’s Paine’s fault I don’t ****ing know. The umpire doesn’t abrogate his responsibility to get something that basic right just because you **** up a review. The world has these things arse about
Largely agree, though the review they burned was insane. I was on a knife edge for pretty much any movement and didn't bat an eyelid while we waited for that one

How am I meant to go to sleep. This was supposed to be a triumphant cycle down the Champs Elysees, not a nail biting photo finish.

Once again proof that cricket is not a game of statistics but a gutting reminder of the cold, random nature of the universe and the ultimate reminder that all that is good and holy will one day fade into chaos and destruction.

So during that last partnership, Australia:

drop a catch
make a throw to the wrong end when there was a chance for a runout
fumbled the throw for an easy runout

harsh to blame Paine for those. any one of those mistakes goes right and Aus win.

I dont think you really understand the review system. Having no review lefts is a big risk.

He does that all the time while Broad and Anderson get lengthy spells at long leg when England are way behind in the game and/or the pitch is flat. It's why I don't hold his bowling average against him at all.
