Groundking

International Debutant
Why should Warner be moved down the order? He's never been anything but an opener at this level.
It's him or Finch who has to move down to get the best out of your available batsmen, and Warner arguably has better ability to go ballistic.

I'm picking:

Warner
Finch
Smith
Handscomb
Turner
Maxwell
-
Starc
Cummins
Hazlewood
*spinner*

If Faulkner was to somehow get back to his 2015 level he'd be perfect for the #7 role, as it is M Marsh might be the best option, alas.

It’s just not that hard - in this side Khawaja is your banker and he floats. If it means he doesn’t bat in 3/4 of the games so be it but if you’re 2/40 he’s the bloke to bat for you.

Honestly Stoinis really only had a purple patch of one year or so. Was ordinary at state level for ages, made the one score at international level and then had a good year. Reverted to form recently.

M Marsh shouldn't have been dropped, same as Wade.

He's useless without being an opener. Not a banker, not a floater. No point. Smith's best position is 3 regardless of when the 1st wicket falls.

Picking a specialist batsmen only for him to not bat half the time is 100% pointless. Especially given he's a **** fielder.

Australia would be wise to tick along at the current rate without over-attacking upto over number 45 or so. Don't want to find yourself 6 down at that stage. 330 would still be easily gettable if they get to 275 with 5 overs to go and wickets in hand.

EDIT : Maxwell gonna Maxwell though
So I was correct.

Aim for 310 and you may end up with 325. Aim for 350 and you end up with <300.

Carey lucky Stokes didn’t sink the slipper into him when he was on the deck there

Stoinis was born in Perth which will be the bigger factor.
Played for Victoria for a period though. For whatever reason they tend to be parochial as **** with regards to cricket for anyone with even the slightest connection to Victoria.

Don't think that, other than catch better, you could reasonably have asked more out of Carey in this tourney.
