I don't mind if the crowd boos the Aussies. Always good to see some passion, and "Warner's a wanker" has a nice ring to it.
I was really looking forward to the crowd giving the Aussies the gears during a t20 once. It turned out to be unimaginative four letter abuse towards Shaun tait on the fine leg boundary.
I was surprised when he ended up agreeing to play for the firebirds.

Must admit I was a fan of Parore during his cricket career. He's plummeted in my estimations since then, however.
I never minded Adam Parore tbh, probably helped by the fact I met him a couple of times & he actually came across as a really good down-to-earth Kiwi bloke.

Then again, I've never been one to jump on the popular 'bash the tall-poppy band-wagon' that many sheep/followers in NZ tend to do. As a young kid, I could never understand how absolute champions like Hadlee, Crowe & Parore (to a lesser extent) were so often knocked down by the NZ media & public.

As a player, Parore was actually one of our tougher cricketers ever & was never shy of doing the hard-yards. Had much more spine than many other NZ cricketers I could name, which was later indicative in his Mt Everest achievement.

Out of interest Ed, why did he plummet in your estimations after his playing days?

Now there's no rain in the Saturday forecast at all. :)
Weather should be fine, even if there is a shower or two, I'm sure we'll get through to a result.

Any money on the skipper winning the toss bowling first if there are showers around.

Yeah it's a rubbish headline.

Do NZ cricket crowds really boo the aussies? I can't remember an occasion. Obviously I'm quite aware of the booing of Quade Cooper but I don't remember it from a cricket crowd. I hope it doesn't happen.
Oh yes we really do & we used to be so much worse. The worst Cricketing example was probably the hating on Greg Matthews in the mid-80s when he was not only booed constantly, but on one occasion a toilet seat was thrown at him and actually hit the poor chap.

I think NZ crowds have grown up a bit since to be fair.

Given the shower of rubbish that was rained down on Matt Hayden in 2005, I think you're probably giving them a bit too much credit.

Don't remember that tbh. Was it something specific that he said/did or just general hating?

A few things, such as...

* His mortgage company and then what seemed to be sudden considerable wealth struck me as a bit iffy
* His very public relationship and then bitter break-up with Sally Ridge, which was all a bit hostile and received so much media attention
* Marrying a model who was born after he made his Test debut and, again, getting plenty of media attention for it

Maybe a bit unfair, but just opinion. :)

I did too until I met him in person.
Strange. As I said, I found him to be surprisingly down to earth & friendly & he certainly had no agenda to be that way towards myself or my gf at the time. It wasn't like we were signing up for an Adam Parore mortgage or something :p

Each to their own, although I will say;

1) People go into business to make money, especially in the finance game, so harsh to hold that against him.
2) Most of that Sally Ridge media stuff is a result of Sally Ridge being Sally Ridge, she lives off media attention...He actually wanted to just get away from it all hence why he did the Everest thing.
3) On the model thing.....bloody hell - good luck to the guy....

That crowd in the Reds vs Crusaders game not too long ago is up there as one of the worst I've seen. Cantabrians booed Quade Cooper literally every time he touched the ball. It was absolutely cringe-worthy.

Fair points. In hindsight, perhaps we haven't grown up that much after all, although I do tend to think we were worse in the 80s, but that could just be my fading memory.

Back to the main event. So NZ have confirmed they're fielding the same starting XI on Saturday?

I respect parore as a player but he comes across pretty poorly in his book. Maybe his ghost writer was just a dick.

Lol have you seen the All Blacks vs Wallabies games when Cooper played? He gets booed every time he's involved (eg making a tackle), every game, it's not exclusive to Cantabrians.

I DOn't know if it was at Eden Park, but remember when Lee hit Parore with a bouncer on one of the NZ ODI tours pretty early in his career? FMD it was one of the fastest bouncers I think I've seen collect someone.
I was at that game in Dunedin. I would like to state for the record that I wasn't one of the drunken students throwing beer cans onto the field after that incident.

We were too far up the terraces... and I have a notoriously weak arm.
