2024–25 NZ domestic season

The same guy who raved to me about Foulkes when he debuted reckons Paul is just as good a prospect… Exciting time down in Canterbury.
Batting 6 for Canterbury here. Foulkes opened his first few first class games. A couple of genuine all rounders would be nice down the line.

I hitched my wagon to Mariu for our eternal "next semi respectable kiwi opener" prediction series that has run since before I joined this site based on some highlights reels so this further confirms my biases and will be added to the propaganda.

Shame that Mariu couldn't push on to a triple. Tbh, Canterbury's decision to slog a quick hundred and declare strikes me as a little odd. There's still so much time in the game left, would've thought they should've focussed on batting normally this morning, and only make the declaration push after lunch.

Draws are heavily disincentivised: there are no points available for a draw. Great for teaching young players how to bat time.

Yeah, the Saxton Oval has never been renowned as being a particularly lively surface. In this case, after the moisture in the pitch dried out it looks to have turned into an absolute motorway. A quality looking Canty bowling attack is getting absolutely taken apart.

Chu about to get stranded on a 50-90 score again. Otago should seriously consider shuffling him up the order a place or two.

Neil Young

State Vice-Captain
Watching those Mariu boundaries, he appears to stay very legside of the ball with little foot movement. Heaphy looks better on the (albeit limited) highlights we have from this round.

Can't dispute Mariu's numbers, though, and long may they continue. Gonna need them - or someone - at intl level some point soon.

Rachin looks like being a mob permanently
Perfect. That's one of the other benefits of continuing to try to develop bonafide opening bats - we can all figure Rachin will average the most at 4, and we need to maximize the output of the guy who will be our best batsman for the next 10 years
