2024–25 NZ domestic season

Just had a look at the betting odds for Super Smash. Blaze paying $1.70 while the Kings are at $3.50.
I'm a numbers guy at heart, so I'll be interested to see how they move throughout the season.

Squad news for today's games in Hamilton:

Auckland have still got Chapman and Jacobs, despite their inclusion for the T20Is to start in two days. It's probably only because Hamilton is on the way from Auckland to Tauranga!

Moreover, Guppy's back. I think most thought his appearances last seasons were the end, but (apparently subject to fitness) here he goes again for his 20th season. He's the last survivor from the first T20 competition in NZ. Hopefully we get to see Wags bowling to him.

Surprising! Normally they hate fringe blackcaps squad members playing actual games of cricket.

That was a disappointing Day 1. Rain & a little cricket in the women's game (Bree Illing, wow!) & nothing in the men's game.

Otago love debuting 17-year-olds in the Super Smash. Duffy, Finnie, Lockrose, and Llew Johnson all received their T20 caps at that age.

No it's not our beloved Hugo Bogue, but it's the heralded Mason Clarke who's been included in the squad for today, the first of three consecutive end-of-year games in Alexandra.

Spinner Lahiru Vimukthi (who I'd never heard of) is also in Otago's squad, though it's unlikely he'll play with Lockrose and Foxcroft also in the squad. A notable lack of Georgeson.

Bree Illing, wow!
Exciting prospect. Hope she gets an international opportunity in the not-too-distant future.

Looks like a stellar day in Alexandra today. Can't say the same about the Magicians' batting so far.

EDIT: But they ended up winning anyway, thanks to a great all-round performance from Pandey.

I rate Clarke highly on youth cricket, so that is great. Man, he is so young still.

Otago have injury problems with their bowling depth. A shame that Hart also joined that list.

Maybe NZC should consider removing all Canterbury v Otago games as a cost-cutting measure. Result being inevitable, etc.

Don't know whether to be frustrated or glad that Jamieson has to wait another 7 months before he can play tests again.
