as an indian fan i want smith opening Rather at number 4 as it is our best chance to get him Early
Or Head.

Don't really want Travis Head batting at No.5 and counter attacking against an older ball. He has been devastating in that role in the middle-lower order. At least with Head opening and facing the new ball, he'd probably get out early more often.

With regards to Smith, at least there are ways to dry up his runs when he is batting down. Head however has been impossible to deal with for India. So I'd really want him to open from India's pov.

Dont think head would be massive problem he cant keep getting hundreds every innings but smith is fulcrum of aussie batting take him out cheap rest would be demoralized 🙂

Don't underestimate Head especially against an older ball. He can take the entire game away in less than a session and totally demoralise the Indian attack like he did in both the finals last year. Plus Head is in his prime aged 30, and is scoring for fun in any format at the moment and that too at destructive strike rates.

Actually he's been garbage in that role for the last year. Lucky to still have a place in the side and living off past glories at this stage.

Again, wrong. He's averaged 22 in Test cricket in the last 12 months, and that's heavily propped up by just 1 innings, a century at Adelaide against the West Indies which tbf was very good.

But that's 1 innings out of 12. Put another way he's utterly failed in 92% of his innings in that time.

Wait till he plays India. These stats will reverse. He averaged 42 last year while this year is still young and he has his favourite bowlers yet to face. In fact, until the end of the Ashes his avg was 47 in 2023 with 6 50+ scores from 19 innings. Almost 1 in 3.

Just because he didn't take lower ranked sides very seriously last summer (Pak, WI etc) doesn't mean he's not in his prime at the moment. I guess you didn't watch anything outside of Test cricket. In any case he is the sole reason Australia won the WTC final (163 off 174 balls) and World Cup Final (137 off 120 balls). You can't twist facts.

In Qld news, Lehman has quit as assistant coach, while Khawaja has been asked to open in the first 3 shield games instead of bat his usual #4 (they want Jack Clayton to bat #4 the entire summer).

Always thought it strange him batting out of test position in the Shield.

Not yet, but he was Qld's leading run scorer last year where he had to move around batting 3, 4 or 5 to accommodate Test players. This year they've locked him into #4
I have a bit of time for Clayton tbqh, but he really isn't there yet. Has had some real good knocks, looks class when he gets going, but still way too many low scores in between, can be something of a poor starter at times.

McSweeney is definitely top of the list when it comes to younger uncapped bats, has been very good the last couple of years, especially considering that Shield cricket in general has been fairly bowler friendly in that time and that he unfotrunately hasn't had the support from the rest of the South Australia top and middle order

Been watching a bit of 2nds game yesterday and today. Glad to see tons from both Hunt and Drew. Pretty docile deck though

WA has a better pace attack than what Australia put up last night
Indeed, but the fact that WA have named 6 specialist quicks in the squad suggests to me at least that they are likely to do a bit of rotation, squad is for their first 2 games, have another on Tuesday

He's just the domestic version of international shaun marsh ATM. He made 90 or 100 last year while puking into a bucket between overs and batting mostly with the tail, was brilliant stuff, but between that he looked clueless.

Not a bad shout honestly, is a little bit of noted young talent Shaun Marsh about him, both in terms of technique and problems with consistency. Obviously not at that level at this stage, but some of the innings I have seen (the one where he was having a chunder that you mentioned especially) does make me rate him above your average lowish 30s averaging domestic bat

New slate it looks like on the U19 reps facing India. Frothing at the prospect of someone called Addison Sheriff playing test cricket one day. What an absolute zoomer name.

Well with Burns sent into early retirement and Bryce Street never delivering, what can you do.

I'm looking forward to yet another Shield season of WA smashing, endless sub 250 / 200 innings scores and pacemen padding their stats and feasting on the mediocrities that dare to call themselves batsmen.
