Don't mind that actually, had a pretty good year for Glenelg, especially in the 50 over stuff with a big 182 against East Torrens being the highlight. Always been a decent talent, wasn't a million miles away from breaking in to the side about 4 years back or so until he had a hip injury which put him out of action for a while. Hope he goes well here

cbf looking it up but Handscomb seems to be having a terrible year as l can’t recall him getting a score

So Fergus O'Neill just won the Bradman young player of the year award (just turned 23).

Never heard of him until then but I see he has 55 wkts @ 20.18 in 15 FC games. He also has 433 runs @ 25.47

For those in the know is he as good as his stats suggest?

Don't know if he's quick enough to succeed at international level. He's a chad sayers ~125 km/h operator. Done very well for victoria the last two seasons, so may be something there i'm not seeing.

Just read Green will be playing the next WA shield match starting 16th.

I hope Labuschagne and Head are also playing next round to clear their heads with some easier red ball cricket before the NZ tour

Marnus is set to feature for QLD, not 100% on head.

It makes me concerned about the pitches tbh, last thing we want to see is a return to the days of Butterworth, Faulkner and Hogan trundling in and bowling 130km/h seam-ups and taking 40 wickets a season.

We're already there with O'Neill and Bell. And even though I think Tremain's a decent bowler, he's not 'average 16.3' good. Gonna be fun explaining in fifteen years how a guy with a career average of 23 never even made a test squad.

Yeah he's so slow he has a stumping to his name

That was a Bairstow style keeper back chuck at the stumps IIRC. But he's probably no more than half a yard faster than O'Neill, I'd guess 132 at fastest.

With Meredith unable to make the Tassie side, Morris is the only genuinely quick bowler (maybe Stanlake too, but not sure what he bowls these days) in the Shield currently. Even guys who were sharp a couple of years ago like McAndrew and Agar bowled slower in the BBL than before.

The trundlerdom has been particularly noticeable this year. There's no points for first innings wins in the Shield this season so that might have contributed. Makes it amazing Sutherland has been mediocre and Neser poor considering how good the conditions have been for their style of bowling.

Come on fellas this obsession with pace is getting a bit excessive. There are precedents for successful seam bowlers that weren't that quick, like Philander. Fergus O'Neill has got the goods IMO. Maybe not on a road but most Test pitches these days offer a bit of assistance
