Yeah.. that series was a very encouraging start. I would like to see them win 15 out of their next 20 ODIs to really show how good they are because their results up to the AUS series haven't been that flash.
I'd say that's a tall order, especially as the team is still too reliant on Flintoff for my liking.

A 75% win rate is a reasonable expectation for a side that beat Australia twice and tied with them once in their last series. I think they have it in them. Who are they playing in the future - Pakistan, then who?

India, then Pakistan, Sri Lanka at home, then the VB series. I think.

India they should beat. Pakistan will be tough. Especially away from home. Will be lucky to win that series. If they do then people should really start to sit up and take notice.

Pak has not achieved much by winning some matches on dusty sub-continental pitches.THe WI pitches won't suit Pak much and i doubt if they will ever make it to Semis.

SL... Outside Sub-continent they cannot do much!
What kind of pitches do you think the WI have these days???, they are slow & will turn so i expect all 3 major sub-continent teams to be a treat in the WC.

wi - they will not have a chance even at home unless the contract dispute is settled. one the basis that it is then its looking promising for them. i say that because when they get their laras etc back they players such as xavier marshall who is no where near up to international level yet will have the international expeirence and provide good backup. pace and spin specalist bowlers are needed if they are to have a glimmer of hope. they have lawson who seems promising when the icc's chucking committee is of his case but im nt sure wether guys like franklyn rose or mervyn dillon are still playing but if so they need to be brought back in2 the team for expeirence alone.
You seem to be a bit out of touch with West Indies cricket. Rose and Dillon are very much out of the picture and Collins, Collymore and Bradshaw have all been performing fairly consistently in recent times.

If someone can get into Dwayne Smith's head, young Ramdin delivers on his early promise and Bravo finds his feet with the bat, they should go very close. If these big "ifs" pan out positively, the following team would look very strong:

Gayle
Chanderpaul
Lara
Samuels
Sarwan
Dw Smith
Bravo
Ramdin
Edwards
Collymore
Collins

Its India where a win is extremely difficuly .Facing India in India is the hardest thing in the world, and i have no doubt that England would struggle in India.

Pak tour will be a cake walk for England, Pak can't even beat teams like SL and Minnows like Zimb on its home ground, how the hell can they match England?? A 3-0 test result to England is something even Pak fans are expecting to get.

Yea, Australia found it really tough when they last visited didn't they - far tougher than when they toured England.

Australia required 96,98 and the Harbhajan-Laxman-Dravid incuduced defeat - 3 series before they won.

That saying, India is not that tough in home any more - what will happen after a future retirement of Kumble is scary.

Why does Sri Lanka get lumped with the minnows??? We've had a better Test and ODI record that Pakistan at home and abroad for a long time.

The teams that are gonna be there in the end will be: ENG and AUS.
The teams that have an outside chance are WI, NZ and SL.

Generally I would agree with you but in World Cups the trend is not maintained.

India won the 83 world cup
Pakistan won the 92 world cup
Pakistan reached the final of the 99 world cup
India reached the final of the 2003 world cup

So not that bad in the world cups held outside the subcontinent in the past 22 years.

As an Englishman, I still can't see why people are putting us as one of the favourites for the World Cup!

haha! u think India is so great don't u? SL thrashed the Indians in the IndianOil cup. I don't think Pakistan can beat India at this time, but they have a better chance of beating India than Sri Lanka.

I don't think England will make it to the final, don't think we have seen enough winning in ODI cricket to put any confidence in them although the past series was quite good. I think it would end up being Australia vs. Nz/Srl. I'm guessing that the West Indies pitches don't really help spin bowlers (I dont know!) so maybe Australia and New Zealand in final if Bond is playing and Tuffey gets back his form again. I hope

Huh?

Pakistan's abroad record is better than most teams in the world, I'll even wager that the only team ahead of us (recent times) in that regard is Australia (in tests and ODI's) and probably South Africa (in ODI's?)*

* Not sure about that at all.

England recently vs Australia was pretty good, although it must be remembered that it was an Aussie team which lost to Bangladesh ;)

Well from 2003-present, it's 3 wins, 6 losses and 2 draws in Tests, so I very much doubt it.
