2004/05 Australian domestic season thread

Geez, it doesn't look too good then for W.A.'s bowling for the rest of the season. Thornely shouldn't make double figures let alone a double century. Maybe it is a bit premature to talk of W.A. making the final.

What the heck. WA for the finals. I might as well put my foot in my mouth at the start of the season rather than fence sit until the end. :D

Oh lord, what are our bowlers doing?

Beau Casson with 21 - 5 - 57 - 3 is the only one who can hold his head high after that poor effort. Especially when they allow someone with absolutely no talent with the bat - a certain S.C.G. MacGill - to score 16. :p

That said I have to temper my comments. If it hadn't been for a magnificant knock from Thornely (lets say he got out for ~20) then NSW would be struggling to get over 200.

In the end it only takes one man to upset the applecart.

lol, what a silly thing to say

Not really, when you consider his record before this match.

7 matches, 14 innings, 358 runs, HS 143, avg 25.57, 1 hundred, 2 fifties.

That means, in 3 of those 14 innings he has scored a minimum of 243 runs. Now 115 runs have come from 11 innings, and that's only if his 2 fifties were only fifties, they were probably more. That means there are not that many double figured scores for Thornely.

hes a solid player, pretty good technique if defense and attack, and showed yesterday he can lift the scoring rate when required he can open the batting or bat in the middle order... and thats before you take his fielding and bowling into account.

Having a good technique doesn't make you a good player, at least one that scores runs (see Akash Chopra). He got lucky, if he can score big runs consistently, I will eat my words, but honestly I can't see it happening, everyone gets lucky now and again.

Oh, and I have to agree with you on his bowling, a first class record of 99 overs, 7 wickets, for 306 runs, at an average of 43.71 and a strike rate of 84.8 with best bowling of 3-52 at an economy of 3.09. Couple that with his list-a record of 140 overs, 19 wickets, for 688 runs, at an average of 36.21, and a strike rate of 44.2, with best bowling of 3-32 at an economy of 4.91 makes for great reading.

Of course, I mean he plays for NSW, so is automatically a great!

As the late, great Mr. Hookes said, "They may aswell give them a baggy green in a brown bag when they hand them their baggy blue."

NSW show some fight. I didn't think Thornely was capable of that. But if MacGill could score 27, the bowling must've been pretty bad. :p

I heard on the radio yesterday that Michael Clark of Western Australia is considering retirement after another back stress fracture.
