Bancroft squaring up constantly and using his bat like a windshield wiper reminds me a bit of Atherton on his forlorn 98/99 Ashes tour.

With a technique like that, he's going to be playing at a lot of deliveries outside off he doesn't have to.
He looked dreadful, considering he is the one who plays most over here out of the Aussie openers it was a pathetic innings.

The same people complaining about this also had a wah recently about Bangladeshi fans having the audacity to cheer their players hitting boundaries.
This England crowd is nowhere near as bad as the Banglas. Hostile yes but I do think they appreciate good cricket. O/c the first Test that the 3 had played since Cape Town especially against their old enemies was gonna turn sour at times.

Wow that's borderline unplayable.

chris woakes and joe root are also good looking in the pretty sense
Joe Root looks like any number of weed addicts who will start talking to you at the club after three beers about how it doesn't make sense that marijuana is legal but its wrong to blow weed smoke into your pregnant wife's face.

Hazlewood's recent form has been pretty dodgy. Not terrible but he certainly hasn't been great. Starc got left out because I think Australia thought he wouldn't exploit seaming pitches all that well.

Pattinson's recent form (admittedly not Tests) has looked hot. Siddle is a weird call but he has dominated in English conditions recently in fairness.
Hazelwood has been fairly ordinary in Tests for a while; hasn't taken more than 3 wickets in a Test innings since Perth 2017.
