CW Blue v CW Red
at the CW Oval
A flat batting wicket made for thrilling cricket, as Cricket Web Red scored enough of their 303/7 to defend against Blue's 285/8. James Stedman score a maiden OD hundred for his team, whilst partnering Ian Markus for 189 runs for the second wicket. Toward the end, Dauth, Moerk and Ghansar got into the big-hitting act to lift the total over 300.
Blue tried to begin the chase positively, but the approach accounted for Camps, knocked over for 22. Cloete and de Silva rebuilt somewhat, then the former was run out. Fitzsimmons didn't last long before being trapped in front by Ghansar. Wilshere played a comfortable innings, but was caught hooking just when he looked set.
In his first OD game for a while, Cribb made a good return and played a adrenaline-boosting half-century to complement de Silva's. Jellett too was spirited and it appeared Blue would have a slim shot at victory. The batting simply did not fire enough at the very end though, and Red took a good win.
Man of the Match: JE Stedman
CW Black v CW Green
at the CWBCC Stadium
A tight run chase was not to be, as the Black middle order fell away to dismiss and victory chances at the very end. Green batted first and once again Malone and Goff scored hundreds. At 224/1 after 40 overs, things looked set for a huge total. However, Broadbent and Wilson returned well to keep the batsmen in check.
Chasing 279 for victory, Loc was out early and the score was 38/1. Chaulk continued his spectacular form though, and unfortunately just fell short of a hundred. He put on 98 runs with Butler for the second wicket, and Butler got to a very good 50. When he was out, Kearsley joined Chaulk to add a further 97 runs and get his own half-century.
When the partnership was broken, things went downhill. Just 11 runs were added as 4 wickets tumbled and the recovery was never sufficient. Malone claimed 4 wickets amidst the collapse to seal a Man of the Match award.
