Introducing cricket to a new country and audience

I'm a bit disheartened, as the foremost sports station turned down the idea. I guess it would take a smaller one - these guys are just too comercial to risk their ass with such an "alien" sport. I begin to wonder if it's worth it anyway.

    Cricket on YouTube

such elegance, ain't it? would have been fine to see a spell of say 10 minutes - at the least - to get an idea about how Bradman really was. this because he becomes more and more a kind of religious figure of cricket - and it's been only few years since his passing.

or Indian Cricket League, most likely.

    Cricket....er...what?

me too.... never ever try! it's tedious to start explaining the game....cricket seems to be the most easy of sports to watch and the most hard to explain :)

    Twenty20 v ODI

I repeat myself - Twenty20 would be awesome if the number of wickets is limited to a maximum of six. Simply - best bowlers vs. best batsmen in the teams. as it is, there is almost no possibility of a team to be bowled out, at high levels. and if you started with the woman comparison, i'd add...

    Criticising Tendulkar the in thing

being over-popular can be a curse - the higher you are the farther you fall - but Indians are well known for their art of exageration, up there for making Sachin an avatar of who-knows-what god of the thousands of gods they worship, and down there for attacking cricketers' houses after a poor...

    Cricket....er...what?

how do people behave when you're absorbed in watching (or following via web) a looong Test match?

    Favourite sport? (Cricket excluded)

Given that I've been a sports journalist for years, I have basic knowledge about a lot of sports and follow some very closely. Here's my take. Football: A great game overall, but the huge money in it spoils the show quite too often and leaded me to burnout. I'd rather watch two exotic teams...

    Cricket....er...what?

As a new fan of cricket in a country who doesn't give a damn on it, i find it funny to try to "spread the gospel". Cricket is a very simple game once you get the knack, but seems to be very hard to explain, and people more often take it to pieces, like "boring", "silly", "stupid" etc. I guess...

Anyone bothered about the Afro-Asia Cup?

on sunday morning i couldn't catch the video action from the Old Trafford Test, but had plenty of options to watch the Afro-Asian. i tuned in a little, seen Dhoni without a helmet and a bowler making some sadly bored launches... and i tuned off. no comparison between that and the intensity of...

Introducing cricket to a new country and audience

@Angus: I won't be able to get involved in cricket administration or something, as you seem to suppose - I've got a motrical disability from birth and can't travel alone. The TV thing I'd like to try, though. Anyone knows who is the TV rights holder in Europe for the Twenty20 World Championship...

Pool C - New Zealand, Italy, Portugal, Romania, Scotland

now - as now - we had two games in the IRB Nations Cup which we host: lost 7-61 to Emerging Springboks and won 14-8 to Italy A. The domestic league ain't so bad, but there is no big stadium for rugby. And not many young lads want to take up the hardships of a rugby career - they're all blinded...
