Introducing cricket to a new country and audience

small steps eh? will consider it. maybe an article or two in the written press will set the wheel in motion. this said after the thriller of a test between England and West Indies :) may as well update the romanian wikipedia section about cricket. :) you guys seem to have a surge of optimism...

Introducing cricket to a new country and audience

Total failure, no-one seems interested, not even the ICC (meh, not surprisingly :) ). idea halted, not abandoned yet. guess it's just the wrong time. (or maybe place).

    Cricket....er...what?

actually it's an offshoot of the dutch spoken by the Boers who were defeated by the Englishmen some 120 years ago - so not really a native language like the others you mentioned.

    Bob Woolmer 'was not murdered'

the whole Woolmer story speaks volumes about how mad sport can become when you forget the fun part of it. they're so bloody serious about it in Asia... may he rest in peace or find a better life (depends which line of thought one follows). Or as Buddhists say - may he be well :)

    Criticising Tendulkar the in thing

tbh, Sam dear, it happens as such when you create idols, as indians are very keen to do. he was amazing, now is just good. he's human. i can't wait to see him facing the English attack tho' :)

    Vaughan quits as ODI captain

Vaughan seems to me too calm and cold a guy to adapt to the hotblooded rythms in modern limited-overs game. It shows also in his conservative approach at bat. And I'm not talking from stats - new as I am I've seen quite a lot of England during the World Cup and after. Colly looks the good choice...

    ***Official** West Indies in England***

MLB shot by Prior, declaration coming closer... come on, odds are good for a win of England to come if they declare at tea. at the worse they can draw it against this attack who seems unable to bowl on the stumps.

    ***Official** West Indies in England***

nice ton for Collingwood, very consistent batting and some silly attempts of spin bowling :) i guess england should push it for runs now and declare at tea.

    Cricket....er...what?

sticking to the title of the thread - how would you describe cricket in a single line... if asked "cricket... er... what?" :)

    Cricket....er...what?

speaking of cricket and ladies, I have a friend, Jodo Buddhist priest, who was amused by my ball-by-ball accounts on messenger during the world cup and said that, if anything, he would like to watch women playing, of course not very much dressed. and I found a bikini cricket clip (from an Aussie...

Official Pro-Wrestling Thread (WWE, TNA, ROH etc.)

    Greatest ever sporting come backs

did anyone mention that legendary outburst in the Ali-Foreman match - 8th round of the Rumble in the Jungle? premeditated or not, Ali was dominated before coming from the ropes to smash his rival. i think this qualifies as a comeback.

Introducing cricket to a new country and audience

the icc page on the twenty20 world cup is poor at the moment. i just wrote in the "contact icc" page, asking about tv rights in europe and possible discounts for new countries.

    Cricket....er...what?

lots of wisdom on this thread :) btw, I have a sister and she's pretty ironic at my new cricket passion, but even she would take a look at the famous Don Bradman clip. she's 15, i'm 29.

    Cricket....er...what?

and there is this thing in cricket when a team is losing and still people cheer it - be it for a century or a terrific spell of play. I've seen this in an ODI between Bangladesh and India recently. The Tigers were clearly losing, but the crowd remained cheerful and when Mortaza stroke 4 sixes in...

Introducing cricket to a new country and audience

the fact is - there are no organised clubs of cricket here and nobody broadcasted a game ever. virgin teritory. there are some groups who play backyard-style but nothing like a regulamentar ground. so the game has to get some exposure at international level to make people think about it - and...
