That's because all batting line ups now suck. Compare this vs say 2003-2010 across the world...when Australia, India, England, South Africa, Sri Lanka even and also Pakistan had pretty good batting line ups relative to anything going around right now. Around that time there was all the talk...

Man, times like these are when you miss Anil Kumble as Coach instead of Ravi Shastri.

This might be the first time in a long long time (ever?) that Pakistan might have a better Test batting line up than India.

We're gonna get at least 4 full days worth of play....which will be more than enough to get a result as I can't see either team batting more than 90 overs on average across 2 innings.

I was perhaps being slightly controversial with such a big statement, but the point is that he's a gun fielder and is one of the best in the world no doubt. Jadeja dropping catches in that game was highly unusual because he's excellent. I've lost count of the number of brilliant catches and...

Rankings don't tell the truth but Jadeja is currently the no.3 bowler in the world and no.2 allrounder. Yes, that's been in Indian conditions and he's more effective on turners but he's come a long long way since his past overseas tours. The pitches in the series against England were very good...

There used to be a time when I thought Vijay, KL Rahul, Pujara, Rahane, DK etc were all really good batsmen. Now, watching them play chase a score of 194 you have absolutely no faith as an Indian fan. Maybe they need to flush them all out and start looking at the likes of Shubman Gill and Prithvi.

    VVS was pretty damn good.

England vs India in a battle of who can f up the most from a decent position. I reckon India winning right now but I expect England to bounce back strongly on this measure.

Compare to India's past series: 1st test they faced Steyn, Philander, Rabada and Morkel. After Steyn got injured, they replaced him with 90mph 6ft 6 Lungi Ngidi!

Problem for England is that their third bowler is a new ball swinger. With Anderson and Broad almost guaranteed to take the new ball...the third seamer needs to be someone who can bowl a lot of overs, keep it tight, perhaps have some extra pace to trouble the batstmen in the middle overs etc.

Oh jeez, just as I've been talking about Pandya. No cricketing sense. You're brought on the 77th over to bowl a couple before the main guys bowl with the new ball. Instead he gives away two boundary balls. 10 overs for 46 runs is not what you want from your 5th bowler.

Tricky thing about this playing 2 spinners theory...if we play 2 spinners then knowing Kohli, Shami would have been dropped for Kuldeep and Shami's been one of our best bowlers today. If they have to drop Hardik to get Jadeja or Kuldeep in, then the batting gets weakened. Although I guess Hardik...

Don't need a 6th bowler. Just need the 5th bowler to bowl 10 overs a day and give away 20 runs.

I don't think Curran, Rashid, Broad Anderson are going to score too many especially with Ashwin. Umesh and Shami bowl well to tailenders too. I think the difference between this team and the teams in 2011 and 2014 are that shoulders don't drop in the third session. They just gave up in series...

Pandya needs to realize that his role as a 5th bowler is to keep the runrate at 2 RPO and pick a wicket if possible. NOT to try bowling bouncers, yorkers etc...leave that to the others. In 2007 when we were successful actually both Ganguly and Sachin bowled superbly and kept it tight. P.S...

What's happened to our much vaunted bowling attack. This is essentially our first choice XI barring Bhuvi. After all that promise, when it comes to the first morning of a Test match Umesh blows it away...very frustrating.

Way too loose from India. England should have been of 20 off 10 overs max. Going at 3.6 in the first 10 is just poor.

This is a good XI. Pujara shouldn't feel too bad...someone had to miss out between Dhawan, Rahul and Pujara and Pujara has been the only one out of those 3 been given a consistent run over the past couple of seasons. Getting dropped once, on the basis of poor form (in fact, shocking) in domestic...

Remember for the second test, Ben Stokes will not be playing. Assuming Woakes replaces him, you have a line up with Woakes at number 7 which does look a bit shaky. If Woakes doesn't come back, then they'll have to play with Curran and Jamie Porter...
